Scotland’s quest for independence against the backdrop of the referendum on leaving the European Union by the Great Britain

The article contains the analysis of actions taken by the Scottish Government aiming at independence of this country. There is an attempt to answer the question what are the consequences of leaving the United Kingdom for this country. In addition, the paper refers to the results of the 2016 referendum on the UK's exit from the European Union, which provides a starting point for further consideration of the causes of growing independence attitudes in Scotland. The direct consequences of Brexit for the country are also discussed with several examples. The author shows that the future of Scotland is uncertain, because the result of a potential independence referendum is unclear, as well as the possible consent of the government in London to hold it again.

Artykuł zawiera analizę działań podjętych przez rząd Szkocji, mających doprowadzić do niepodległości tego kraju. Podjęta zostaje próba odpowiedzi na pytanie jakie konsekwencje może mieć dla tego kraju opuszczenie Wielkiej Brytanii. Ponadto praca odnosi się do wyników referendum dotyczącego opuszczenia przez Wielką Brytanię Unii Europejskiej z 2016 roku, co stanowi punkt wyjścia do dalszych rozważań na temat przyczyn nasilających się postaw niepodległościowych w Szkocji. Omówione na kilku przykładach zostały również bezpośrednie konsekwencje Brexitu dla tego kraju. Autor wykazuje, że przyszłość Szkocji jest niepewna, bowiem niejasny jest wynik potencjalnego referendum niepodległościowego, jak również ewentualna ponowna zgoda rządu w Londynie na jego przeprowadzenie.
