W artykule przedstawiono rys historyczny oraz działalność bibliotek we współczesnej Turcji. Omówiono funkcjonowanie Biblioteki Narodowej, bibliotek publicznych, szkolnych, akademickich i specjalnych. Zwrócono uwagę na cenne kolekcje manuskryptów osmańskich przechowywane w bibliotekach tureckich oraz projekty digitalizacji tychże zbiorów. Zaprezentowano problematykę kształcenia bibliotekarzy, organizacje bibliotekarskie, czasopisma fachowe oraz tureckie inicjatywy Open Access.

This article describes the historical background and activity of libraries in modern Turkey. Functioning of the National Library, public libraries, school libraries, academic libraries and special libraries is presented. Special attention is paid to the valuable collections of Ottoman manuscripts which are stored in Turkish libraries and the digitization projects of these collections. Education of librarians, library science organizations, professional journals and Turkish initiative of Open Access are also described.
