Biblioteki akademickie są dziś najbardziej zaawansowanymi formami instytucjonalnymi, które gromadzą naukowy materiał informacyjno-dokumentacyjny. Muszą ewoluować, aby sprostać wyzwaniom technologii i elastycznym programom nauczania. Artykuł ma na celu uchwycenie ewolucji bibliotek akademickich w czasie, a dokładniej przeanalizowanie kategorii zmian, którym podlegają, a zwłaszcza: ewolucję rozwoju kolekcji, ewolucję przestrzeni bibliotecznych, ewolucję usług świadczonych przez biblioteki akademickie oraz ewolucję organizacji informacji. Artykuł omawia te cztery rodzaje zmian, zapewniając pomoc w zrozumieniu sposobu, w jaki ewoluują biblioteki akademickie oraz prowadzą dziś swoją działalność.

Academic libraries are today the most advanced institutional forms that gather scientific information and documentation material. Academic libraries must evolve to meet the challenges of technology and flexible curricula. The article aims to capture the evolution of academic libraries, and more specifically to analyze the ways in which this evolution has manifested, grouping them into several categories: the evolution of the collection development, the evolution of academic library space, the evolution of services provided by academic libraries and the evolution of knowledge organization. The article discusses these four types of evolution and helps in understanding how the academic library has evolved and operates today.
