Church Slavic Descriptions for Children and Youth in Selected Lexicographic Sources

This article discusses the description of the meaning of nouns (and some derivatives) that refer to children and youth in the Church Slavic language (both Old and New Church Slavic). It provides a compilation and comparison of entries and definitions extracted from the most important and, possibly, the newest lexicographic sources of the Church Slavic language: definitional dictionaries, bilingual dictionaries, a paronym dictionary, and a phraseological dictionary. The observations concern the degree of concretization of individual lexemes’ meaning, the scope of synonimization and lexicological hierarchy within a given semantic field, as well as the possibilities of using the analyzed words in a general or figurative sense noted in the dictionaries. Based on the review of the existing lexicographic sources, postulates are formulated regarding further possible directions of linguistic and translational analysis of the subject lexis
