A perspective of the use of the grounded theory methodology in the research on human development. The article contains an analysis of grounded theory methodology (Glaser, Strauss, 1965) in respect to its potential for research into human development. Firstly, grounded theory methodology gives the opportunity to describe processes (phases and conditions in which the phases change). Secondly, grounded theory has a specific aim as a strategy of qualitative research: building new theories on empirical data referring to new fields of research. Exploring new phenomena is possible on the assumption of minimal research preconceptualisation. Thirdly, grounded theory authors assume that they study phenomena and events in their context.
