PRAGMATICS AND THEORIESIn my essay I focus on conceptions which cannot be inscribed in the concept of „useful goals” and usefulness. To put things bluntly: (by defi nition) openness to unquenchable desires is a negation (also by defi nition) of realizable needs. The question which I pose in the essay is: whether an institution such as a university (faculty, department etc.) is able to realize and in what way both the philosophy of desires and needs (usefulness and utility). Or, to put it differently: whether the humanities of desires has a chance to survive in a world which demands utility and is governed by it
