The Legal Regulations Controlling the Activity of the Union of Artisans’ Chambers of the Polish Republic in the Years 1933–1939The author of present article raises the issue of the Union of Artisans’ Chambers of the Polish Republic in the years 1933–1939. The Union was founded in the year 1933; earlier on such an organization did not exist in Poland. In the above-mentioned period, the Polish state tried to introduce suitable legislation which would regulate the activity of the Union, on two separate occasions: for the first time, by introducing a Resolution of the President of the Polish Republic of 27th October 1933 Concerning Artisans’ Chambers and Their Union, on the basis of which it was called into existence, and for the second time, by introducing an Act of Parliament of 19th July 1939 on Artisans’ Chambers and Their Union; however, the Act had failed to come into force before the II World War, although it remained binding, with certain modifications, until the year 1956. In the Second Republic, the Union had remained the most important organ of the artisans’ self-government. The state authorities had also used it in the process of realization of certain control as well as administrative tasks in the crafts sector. It is worth emphasizing here that all Artisans’ Chambers operating in Poland at the time, had to belong to the Union and there was no exemption from this rule.
