W okresie 1968-2018 badaniem prawa rzymskiego na Uniwersytecie Śląskim w Katowicach zajmowali się między innymi Michał Staszków oraz Edward Szymoszek. Uczeni nie tylko byli pierwszymi wykładowcami tego przedmiotu na Wydziale Prawa i Administracji w Katowicach, ale także w okresie swej kariery naukowej przyczynili się do poszerzenia wiedzy w zakresie tej dziedziny.  Michał Staszków w zakresie prawa rzymskiego badał proces rzymski, a jego najpopularniejszymi dziełami z tej tematyki są artykuły: Vindicta, Vindex oraz praca monograficzną „Vim dicere”. Studia nad genezą procesu rzymskiego. Natomiast co do drugiego z uczonych to podstawie twórczości Edwarda Szymoszka możemy stwierdzić, że obiektem jego zainteresowań była szkoła glosatorów oraz proces rzymski z naciskiem na status sędziego.  Przez pięćdziesiąt lat istnienia Wydziału Prawa i Administracji w Katowicach obu romanistów wywarło bez wątpienia istotny wpływ na rozwój prawa rzymskiego. Uczonych łączył nie tylko fakt wykładania prawa rzymskiego ale także ich zainteresowania. W dalszym okresie swej kariery Edward Szymoszek dokonał wnikliwej analizy dzieł Michała Staszkowa, a działalność jego poprzednika miała wpływ na ukierunkowanie jego późniejszych badań w dziedzinie procesu.

In der Zeit von 1968 bis 2018 wurde das römische Recht an der Schlesischen Universität Kattowitz unter anderem von Michal Staszków und Edward Szymoszek unterrichtet. Die Forscher waren nicht nur die ersten Lehrer in diesem Fach an der Fakultät für Recht und Verwaltung in Kattowitz, sondern trugen auch im Laufe ihrer akademischen Laufbahn zur Er- weiterung des Wissens in diesem Rechtsgebiet bei. Im Bereich des römischen Rechts untersuchte Michał Staszków den römischen Prozess. Sei- ne bekanntesten Veröffentlichungen zu diesem Thema sind: die Artikel Vindicta, Vindex und die Monografie Vim dicere: Studia nad genezą procesu rzymskiego [Vim dicere: Studien über die Genese des römischen Prozesses]. Was den zweiten der genannten Forscher - Edward Szymo- szek, anbelangt, so lässt sich anhand seiner Veröffentlichungen feststellen, dass zum Gegenstand seines Interesses die Schule der Glossatoren bzw. der römische Prozess unter besonderer Berück- sichtigung des Richterstatus gehörten. In den fünfzig Jahren des Bestehens der Fakultät für Recht und Verwaltung in Kattowitz hatten die beiden Romanisten ohne Zweifel einen bedeutenden Einfluss auf die Entwicklung des römischen Rechts. Gemeinsam für die Forscher war nicht nur die Tatsache, dass sie das römische Recht unterrichteten, sondern auch ihre Interessen. Im weiteren Verlauf seiner Karriere nahm Edward Szymoszek eine gründliche Analyse der Veröffentlichungen von Michał Staszków vor und die Tätigkeit seines Vorgängers beeinflusste die Ausrichtung seiner späteren Forschungen im Bereich des Prozesses.

In the period from 1968 till 2018, the study of Roman law at the University of Silesia in Katowice was carried out, among others, by Michał Staszków and Edward Szymoszek. These two scholars were not only the first lecturers of this subject at the Faculty of Law and Adminis- tration in Katowice, but also during their academic careers, they contributed to the expansion of knowledge in this area of law. In the field of Roman law, Michał Staszków researched Roman litigation process, and his most popular works on this subject are the articles Vindicta, Vindex and the monographic work “Vim dicere. Studies on the origins of the Roman litigation process” [Studia nad genezą procesu rzymskiego]. As for the second of the aforementioned scholars - Edward Szymoszek, we can state, on the basis of his works, that the object of his interest was the school of glossators and Roman litigation process, with the emphasis on the status of a judge. During the fifty years of the Faculty of Law and Administration in Katowice, the two Ro- man law experts undoubtedly exerted influence on the development of Roman law. They were connected not only by the fact that they taught Roman law, but also by their interests. Later in his career, Edward Szymoszek made an insightful analysis of the works of Michał Staszków, and the work of his predecessor influenced the direction of his later research in the field of litigation.
