In Europe, the 15th century is considered to be the time of the late Middle Ages, and more specifically – of late medieval scholasticism. Although the Middle Ages are often regarded by many as the “dark ages”, where people blindly believed in superstitions, it must not be forgotten that it is the Middle Ages that was the period of the heyday of science, education, universities, collegiate and church schools, as well as breathtaking monumental cathedrals, which show the genius of the people of that – wrongly called dark – era. In Western Pomerania and the Lubusz Region, the period of medieval scholasticism had an impact on the development of theology and education, which was extremely important for the development of these areas.
