Suburbanizacja jest procesem zachodzącym w ostatnim półtorawieczu, związanym z początkami industrializacji. Proces suburbanizacji w całym okresie ulegał jednak przeobrażaniu i wywoływany był różnymi czynnikami. W artykule przedstawiono podłoże i cechy charakterystyczne dla współczesnej suburbanizacji. Wskazano także na nieuchronność dalszego rozwoju owego procesu, podając kilka tego powodów. W opracowaniu przedyskutowano sześć hipotez dotyczących kształtowania się procesu suburbanizacji w przyszłości. Autor przedstawił także rozważania nad możliwością zastąpienia suburbiów inną formą osadnictwa.

Suburbanisation, a process occurring during the last 150 years, is connected with the beginning of industrialisation. However, the suburbanisation process has been changing during the whole period due to different factors. In the article the background and characteristics of contemporary suburbanisation is presented. Also some causes of the inevitability of the futurę development of this process are pointed out. Six hypotheses regarding the futurę shape of suburbanisation processes are discussed. The author also elaborates opportunities for replacing suburbs with other form of settlement.
