Gender-related differences in early reading achievements

In the study has been undertaken the problem relationship between gender and reading skills development in children. This was done to resolve apparent inconsistencies of the Polish reading literature, which produced no clear conclusion regarding gender-related differences in reading ability, often failing to observe the advantage of girls over boys that was typically found in other languages. The studies showed that gender differentiates children in the early development of reading skills in favour of girls. In the first grade differences between children diminish. Studies of children in further grades again show a clear advantage of girls. It can be thought that the initial differences caused biological factors in the successive years of education are modified by overlapping socio-cultural factors, which as concerns reading, work in favor of girls to a considerable degree, similarly to biological factors at earlier stages.

Omawia biologiczne i społeczno-kulturowe przyczyny szybszych postępów dziewczynek.
