Objawienie, a za nim teologia pojęcie świętości wiąże z naturą Boga, który w stosunku do stworzenia jest całkowicie transcendentny, ale jednocześnie bliski i w swoim Synu Jezusie Chrystusie niejako z nim zjednoczony. W ścisłym tego słowa znaczeniu o świętości można mówić tylko wtedy, kiedy uznaje się Świętego – Boga, od którego pochodzi wszelka świętość i który jest jej Źródłem. Świętość Boga została w pełni objawiona w Jezusie Chrystusie, który przez swe objawieniowo-zbawcze dzieło dał ludziom udział w Jego świętości, Kościół natomiast, będąc święty ze swej natury, w której w pełni partycypuje, ma za zadanie zwiastować tę świętość w świecie i ją realizować. Istota świętości jest zawsze ta sama, choć świętość może być realizowana w różnych stanach zarówno w Kościele, jak i w świecie, na różnych drogach życia. Tak rozumiana świętość chrześcijańskiego życia – zwłaszcza osiągana w codzienności, choć także w wyniku heroicznych cnót – ma ogromne znaczenie w mówienia o wiarygodności chrystianizmu. Wyraża się ona nie tylko w życiu wewnętrznym, lecz ma także zewnętrzne refleksy, które są istotne dla współczesnej mentalności, uwrażliwionej na pragmatykę i prakseologię. Wymaga jednak jej rozpoznania ze strony wiary.

The Divine Revelation – and in consequence Christian theology – connects a term ‘holiness’ with the nature of God who in relation to His creature is totally transcendent but in the same time is close to it and in His Son Jesus Christ, in a sense, united with it. Strictly speaking it is possible to talk about holiness under one condition: if one believes in the Holy One – God who is the source of any holiness. Holiness of God was fully revealed in Jesus Christ who through His revelation-salvific deeds allowed human beings to participate in God’s holiness. Church, however, being holy from her nature (and participating in God’s holiness) has a task to proclaim holiness in the world and to practice it. The essence of holiness is always the same although holiness could be practiced in the Church and the world in many different ways. So understood holiness of Christian life – achieved especially in everyday life or in a way of heroic virtues – has a very important meaning for the credibility of Christianity. Holiness is present not only in a spiritual (‘inside’) life but also has outside reflections which is so much important for a contemporary mentality marked by praxis and praxeology. holiness, however, could be recognized only from a perspective of faith.

Die Offenbarung und ihr folgend die Theologie verbinden den Begriff der Heiligkeit mit Gott, der gegenüber der Schöpfung ganz transzendent ist, bleibt jedoch gleichzeitig in seinem Sohn Jesus Christus mit ihr gleichsam vereint. In der genauen Bedeutung kann man von Heiligkeit nur dann reden, wenn man im Heiligen - Gott, von dem Alle Heiligkeit kommt und der ihre Quelle ist, erkennt. Die Heiligkeit wurde vollkommen in Jesus Christus offenbart, der den Menschen durch sein Offenbarungs- und Erlösungswerk Anteil an seiner Heiligkeit schenkte. Die Kirche, die ihrer Natur nach heilig ist, soll diese Heiligkeit in der Welt verkünden und sie dort realisieren. Das Wesen der Heiligkeit ist immer dasselbe, wenngleich sie in verschiedenen Lebensumständen und -wegen, in der Kirche und in der Welt, realisiert werden kann. Die so verstandene Heiligkeit des christlichen Lebens - vor allem jene, die im Alltag, auch durch heroische Tugenden erreicht wird - hat eine große Bedeutung bezüglich der Glaubwürdigkeit des Christentums. Sie zeigt sich nicht nur im innerlichen Leben, sondern hat auch äußere Merkmale, die für die heutige Mentalität, empfänglich für Pragmatik und Praxeologie, von Bedeutung sind. Sie müssen jedoch im Glauben erkannt und verwirklicht werden.
