Wobec tego, że urząd papieski w swoim od I Soboru Watykańskiego zdefiniowanym stanowi jeden z największych przeszkód dla jedności Kościołów chrześcijańskich, autor niniejszego artykułu próbuje na nowo zinterpretować wypowiedzi soborowe odnoszące się do tej problematyki. Dokonuje tego na tle teologii wiary, która zdecydowanie odnosi treść wiary (fides quae) do fides qua. W ten sposób pewne wypowiedzi dotyczące wiary, także odnoszące się do papieża, są relatywizowane, jednak nie w sensie ich eliminacji, ale w znaczeniu intensywnego odniesienia ich do centrum wiary biblijnej. W ten sposób zostaje otwarta "przestrzeń", dzieki której jest możliwe nadanie każdorazowo nowego kształtu urzędowi piotrowemu rozumianemu jako "służba jedności".

As we know the idea of papacy defined during the First Vatican Council is one of the biggest problems for the unity of Christian Churches. The author of this article attempts to re-interpret the statements of the Council relating to this matter. It will be done against the background of the theology of faith that definitely relates the content of faith (fides quae) to the fides qua. In this way, certain statements regarding faith, also referring to the pope, are relativized, but not in the sense of elimination, but in the sense of their intense reference to the center of biblical faith. We have also the possibility to give every time a new shape of papacy, understood as a "ministry of unity".

Angesichts dessen, dass das Amt des Papstes in seiner auf dem I. Vaticanum definierten Gestalt eines der größten Hindernisse für die Einheit der christlichen Kirchen ist, versucht der Beitrag eine Neuinterpretation der diesbezüglichen konziliaren Aussagen. Dies geschieht auf dem Hintergrund einer Glaubenstheologie, welche die Inhaltlichkeit des Glaubens (fides quae) dezidiert an die fides qua zurückbindet. Damit werden bestimmte Glaubensaussagen, auch die über den Papst, relativiert, und zwar nicht im Sinn einer Eliminierung, sondern einer intensiven Inbezugsetzung auf das Zentrum des biblischen Glaubens. Damit öffnet sich ein „Raum“, dem Petrusamt als „Dienst an der  Einheit“ jeweils neue konkrete Gestalt zu geben.
