The article provides a review of concepts of economic approach to the constitution. Firstly, it presents basic principles and most important premises of the constitutional economy - a research programme based on the examination of constitutional rules with the use of methodology and tools of economic analysis. Secondly, it describes the results of some theoretical and empirical studies concerning the approach by economists to an analysis of the principle of separation of powers, independence of the judiciary and the system of constitutional rights and freedoms. Thirdly, it present perspectives for development of constitutional economy, especially taking into account the Polish practice.
