A study outlines a programme of research of spoken Slovak as an anticipated standard variety of a national language. This variety is characterised by elements of all linguistic levels. It is common for the whole Slovakia and dominantly used in official, semi-official and presumably also in non-official communication. While preparing and realising the research programme it is necessary to take into consideration all contexts lying inside and outside the province of linguistics determining producing actual verbal expressions in the particular communication situations. At the same time it is important to observe and analyse tension between variant and invariant as well as a move on the axis individual - social.
