The paper investigates the naming of the third group of the Altaic languages (the other two being Turkic and Mongolic), referred to by the researchers as Manchu, Manchu- Tungus or Tungus (Tungusic). The structures and names of languages belonging to the third group are presented together with the history of their naming as well as with the arguments for the term which should be applied for the whole group.
