The paper aims to highlight two perspectives in expatriation process: one of head-quarter and another of foreign unit. It emphasizes the impact of expectations and mutual relationships on performing the international assignment and describes HQ’s and host unit’s roles and scope of participation in the process in question. The analysis is based on literature studies and empirical research conducted in 2011 by the Chair of Human Capital Management/ Cracow University of Economics.
