The primal goal of my research is to explain the complex semantic structures of the language of the Rigveda. Concepts in the ritual hymns of this text are rather blended and thus creating new compound concepts which are very difficult to be comprehended by a contemporary recipient. As a method of research the cognitive linguistics has been chosen. One of the main statements of this discipline, investigating the processes of creative thinking, reveals that it is the experience of everyday actions and objects that lays in the core of even the most abstract ideas, by which human tries to seize and understand the world. Therefore, for the purpose of this article, merely one concept – THREAD – has been chosen, the study of which reveals mental operations leading to creating compound concepts. This article is an attempt to understand the reason for creating compound concepts as well as the nature of ritual dimensions of human creative thinking.
