The paper describes the results of research on the nature and the effectiveness of social influence technique named Box shaking which has been used for the money collection on the street. The technique is based on the catch attention mechanism and falls into broader techniques category called Catch attention, along with Drum playing and Rattle shaking which were also tested. It was shown that the techniques increased both, the participants' compliance with the experimentalist's request, and percentage of people giving their money spontaneously. They also demonstrated that the participants' compliance has not been influenced by the kind of argumentation within the message content. Two experiments in Dublin and two in Wrocaw were conducted. The results supported hypothesis about effectiveness of techniques and seem to indicate their culture independence.
