Określono przedmiot i zakres zainteresowania nauki o marketingu w świetle aktualnie obowiązującej ofi cjalnej defi nicji marketingu.

As a separate science interested in specifi c category of economic phenomena and fulfi lling fundamental social role the marketing science has been existing for over one hundred years. Its rapid development in particular since 1960s, numerous and diversifi ed trends and schools of marketing thought resulted in the fact that providing an answer to a question regarding the scope of interest in the marketing science is currently extremely diffi cult. Meanwhile, detailed determination of the scope of interest is particularly important for each science, since it constitutes a basis for defi ning a giver area of knowledge as science, allows for answering the question what should be its boundaries, how it develops and where is its place in comparison to allied sciences. Without determining in details the scope of its interest science loses both its identity and scientifi c nature. In the article have been presented conclusions on the scope of interest in the marketing science resulting from the current defi nition of the marketing provided by the AMA. Additionally, there have been presented the role played by the defi nition of the marketing from the perspective of the scope of the marketing science, there have been emphasized direct relationship between the manner of defi ning the marketing and the scope of interest in the marketing science. Moreover, there have been determined the subject and scope of interest in the marketing science in terms of currently binding offi cial defi nition of the marketing. Finally, there have been indicated the threats posed to the marketing science that arise from too narrow defi nition of the marketing in the management categories.
