Wspieranie inteligentnego rozwoju stanowi jeden z priorytetów wdrażanych w ramach Strategii Europa 2020 Odnosi się do rozwoju gospodarki opartej na wiedzy, gospodarki innowacyjnej. Priorytet ten będzie realizowany na poziomie regionalnym, krajowym oraz unijnym, a podmioty poszczególnych szczebli są włączone w implementację. W jego ramach wdrażany jest projekt przewodni „Europa innowacji” mający na celu wykorzystanie działalności badawczo-rozwojowej i innowacyjnej do rozwiązania problemów z którymi borykają się państwa członkowskie, jak i cała UE. Polityka spójności ma do odegrania istotną rolę w finansowaniu poszczególnych priorytetów tej strategii. W poprzednim okresie programowania fundusze strukturalne wspierały działania ukierunkowane na rzecz budowania potencjału innowacyjnego europejskich regionów.

Supporting intelligent development constitutes one of the priorities implemented within Europe 2020 Strategy. It refers to development of economy based on knowledge, innovative economy. This priority will be performed at the regional, national and Union level. The major project “Europe of innovation” is implemented within this priority and it is aimed to make use of research and development activity as well as innovative activity to solve problems faced by Member States and the whole EU. Cohesion policy has an important role to play in financing particular priorities of this strategy. In the previous programming period structural funds supported activities focused on developing innovative potential of European regions.
