Nowadays diary-writing is a subject of interest in various fields (the theory of text coherence, narratology, literary genetics) as well as a few humanistic disciplines (history, psychology, sociology, anthropology). One can see that the position of literary studies in Poland is changing in relation to the way diary-writing is now being discussed. Diary interpreters have pointed out a need to extend existing ways of describing the text, therefore literary studies now draw on psychological, sociological and philosophical approaches. Moreover, diaries now seen as literature have changed the canon. For instance the publishing of Zofia Nałkowska’s „Diaries” has increased interest in her novels. One should stress, that diary canon is not a constant – full versions of diaries are rarely available at once. Publishers and editors publish them in a selection, and rules concerning editor's notes to individual editions are not always clear. It is worth saying that the cultural position of a diary is different today. A diary exists in both high culture and pop culture alike. The diaries of politicians, actors, singers and sportsmen are now published on a wide-scale basis. The way we look at diary-writing today is also affected by the existence of internet blogs. This happens not only because a blog assumes different ways of communication (author anonymity, accessibility, and the possibility of adding comments by viewers), but also because it changes the borders of intimacy, fixed by society. Diary-writing has changed the way of interpretation, as an interpreter deals not with a complete work, but a fragmentary one. This is a reason why several forms of diary analysis appeared. Sometimes it is treated as a helpful source of information about the writer's life, but also diaries started to reveal their literary side. All omissions, loose information and author’s secrets are found and usually they are linked to the historical, political and ethnical matters. Another way of interpreting diaries is by parallel (comparison of the two texts, especially when they come from the same period or their authors represent the same generation). One of the most often applied methods of reading a diary today is intertextualism. Intertexts confirm a literary and aesthetic value of works, though sometimes an insincerity of the author.
