The aim of this study is evaluation of poverty range in southern macroregion and formulate conclusions for the form of the studied phenomenon in the coming years. The paper presents a deep analysis, involving on the one hand poverty itself, on the other hand taking into the consideration the situation opposite to poverty - welfare. The income inequality, which is de facto the basis of defining poverty, was also taken into the consideration. The values of selected indicators calculated for southern macroregion was also compared with the values of indicators calculated for Poland.
