The study aims at estimating the short-run impact of rises in energy prices on the domestic commodity prices, level and composition of GDP, and the competitiveness of the Polish economy. It also analyzes how these changes influence real incomes of various types of households, as well as unemployment. Computations are based on Impec – a multisectoral model of the Polish economy. Its most important advantage, compared to typical aggregate macroeconomic models, is that it enables detailed investigations of the structures of production and consumption. Impec is an Inforum-type model operating at the level of 54 sectors and 43 categories of household consumption. It was used to simulate the response of the Polish economy to energy price shocks: rise in domestic prices of electricity and coal as well as world price of oil, natural gas and coal.
