The article presents result of studies on a two-level technique of impregnating waterlogged wood, which has been employed to reconstruct wooden structures of the stronghold from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries on the Castle Hill a t Pułtusk. The results obtained show that the employed technique guarantees a high stability of dimensions and forms of waterlogged wood; it also improves slightly its mechanical properties and brings its colouring and mass close to natural wood. Just as the applied technique of a two-level impregnation does not ensure resistance of the wood to microorganisms and the preparations used do not make the treated wood hydrophobic, display of the objects protected in this way must take place in museums only.
