The author shares his view of future threats related to human activity. Whereas the natural disasters become more and more predictable, the future consequences of man's cognitive activity, discoveries and political ambition became threats, which should not be ignored. As the cognitive motive of exploration and technological advancement cannot be reduced or stopped by any social (international consensus), the consideration of accompanying risk should be enhanced. The awareness of the real benefits and potential losses included in technological aspirations becomes crucial for the welfare of the humanity.

The author discusses the life long decisions that bear heavy consequences for the person. Most often they are taken at the age when young people set the goals for their career, family and life style. However, it is not possible to predict the future circumstances for goal realization and what is crucial, their evaluation of the goal attainment may change. The author suggests how to persist in personal goals and how to hold evaluating its importance for personal sense of life. Also in conclusion calls on elaborating more adequate theoretical models as frameworks to analyse the complex life long transtemporal decisions.

The process of realizing psychological costs of career and including them in the natural course of experiencing life is a particularly substantial component affecting the assessment of our satisfaction and quality of life. Feeling of fulfillment as a substantial element of quality of life rate exists only if man fully develops his abilities. Psychological costs contribute to impoverishment of life richness and losses in resources. In the research done on the sample of 243 managers of a medium and high level in the Polish organisations a substantial relationship between the results in all scales of psychological costs and quality of life assessment was observed. The higher the assessed costs are, the higher level of quality of life impoverishment, especially in the ranges of family life and individual development. The selected ones make career, often living a destructive life, they are in the state of continuous eagerness, under pressure of competition and responsibilities, and under illusion that by achieving success they will experience happiness. Nevertheless, the results obtained in the research deny these assumptions.

The authors report the study on what strategies the young people use in construing own future and to what extent the strategy preference in related to personality dimensions such as achievement motivation, optimism, locus of control, values and Big Five. Six strategies were identified: authority, realistic, wishful, carpe diem, pressure and awaiting. The group of 239 high school and university students filled the Questionnaire on Strategies of Construing own Future and standard personality methods. The more often are used authority, realistic and wishful while less frequently the carpe diem, pressure and awaiting strategy. Some Students tend to apply one strategy (monostrategic) others more than one (polistrategic). The statistical analyses based on the extreme group comparison as well as correlational/regression analyses revealed that the less preferred strategies are more linked to personality- the links being moderately strong. The reverse is for more preferred strategies, which may suggest that construing one's own future is relatively independent or separate personality characteristics (a possible Big Sixs). The strength and relationship value varies (positive or negative) depending on the strategy nature. The research outcomes are discussed within the frame of future time perspective.
