In this article the author discusses pseudo-analogonymy in the context of the research on the Kajkavian dialect. The first part of the article is devoted to the compromises that need to be made in finding such pairs because they usually involve different phonological systems. The most common reason for the occurrence of “false friends” within the same dialect are different semantic adaptations, formative homonymy as well as transitions and loss of phonemes. It is concluded that in the research of that kind complete pairs of “false friends” are much more common in remote local speeches and partial pairs in neighbouring local speeches. The end of the article brings a selected list of such pairs of lexemes which the author has compiled based on the material from some modern dictionaries of Kajkavian local speeches or the material from his own research.
