Due to the aging of societies, the increased prevalence of patients with dementia is observed. Parkinson’s disease is one of the most frequent neurodegenerative disorders and occurs mainly in people in age over 50 years. The core symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are bradykinesia, tremor and plastic rigidity. The main purpose of the study was to looked for answers to questions about the individual sense of experience, about relationships with others, and to change behaviours focused on taking life actions. The following research questions were sought: What meaning does the respondent give to her experience? How does she respond to news of chronic illness? How does illness change a person’s life? How does living with a chronic disease affect an individual’s identity? The study was conducted in February 2019 by the author of the article, using the biographical method and narrative interview technique. Social scientific research on experiencing chronic illness focuses directly on pivotal players in health care – people who are sick.

Most patients have families that are providing some level of care and support. In the case of older adults and people with chronic disabilities of all ages, this “informal care” can be substantial in scope, intensity, and duration. Family care giving raises safety issues in two ways. First, caregivers are sometimes referred to as “secondary patients”, who need and deserve protection and guidance. Second, family caregivers are unpaid help providers who often need help to learn how to become competent volunteer workers who can better protect their family members (i.e. the care recipients). This article summarizes quality evidence from both of these perspectives. The focus is on the adult caregiver who provides care and support primarily for adults with chronic illnesses and chronic health problems.

Większość osób chorych posiada rodziny, które zapewniają pewien poziom opieki i wsparcia. W przypadku osób starszych i osób przewlekle niepełnosprawnych w każdym wieku ta „nieformalna opieka” może mieć znaczny zakres, intensywność i czas trwania.

Scope and fast pace of implementation of some economic reforms caused appearance of many problems in Poland. Situation of this type was the reason for widening of poverty, worsening of people’s state of health and appearing of pathological behaviors. Weak resistance against difficult situations in life is, in turn, the cause for falling into the state of helplessness. People afflicted by homelessness become unable to manage by themselves, they lose their way in the surrouding reality (cultural and personality effects typical for a homeless person). Thus, the issue of homelessness is of the extreme character (is the most tragic in its effects), and in consequence – of the pathological character. Problems that come into existance are the field for an active social policy and social work as well as for activities of mutual-aid and of charitable character. Article presents opinions of inhabitants social blocks on homelessness.

The problem of homelessness is not new, however it was only after 1989 that research regarding this issue started in Poland. Only very sparse publications connected with this subject matter appeared in preceding years. That situation was caused predominantly by the tendency to conceal the existence of certain social issues. The research related to this significant phenomenon conducted in the period of less than 20 years turned out to be extremely difficult, time and work consuming and very costly. A preliminary survey of the subject related literature showed that a research connected with family homelessness is undertaken very rarely. This phenomenon is a dangerous experience for an individual, but also the issue of family homelessness is becoming an alarming problem. Family's life is disturbed, which often leads to its disintegration. When a family faces homelessness, children are often placed in welfare institutions. Homelessness has negative impact on children's growth and education. Moreover it ruins physical and mental well being of the family members. In relation with the occurring problems, the herein article attempts an analysis of the issue of family homelessness. The analysis focused on the socio-demographic image of homeless families, causes of the problem, place of stay, ways for providing for the family, and forms of assistance for homeless families.

Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is not only exhausting physically and emotionally, but can also have high financial costs. This problem becomes of a special importance in the presence of an aging process of individual as well as the society, and in light of a growing number of people with AD. Caring for person with AD constitutes a high risk of a decreased quality of life of the caregiviers; it is especially true with regard to family caregivers, who are emotionally connected with the patient. Therefore, the aim of the study was to recognize and present their social world on the basis of a narrative which is a subjective, namely a reconstruction of their life history. The technique of an autobiographical narrative interview was used for the research, as proposed by F. Schütz, who developed the method as a cohesive concept of biographical research. The collected empirical material (50 interviews) was analyzed, providing answers to the posed questions and allowing the formulation of conclusions, which made it possible to enrich the existing knowledge with the qualitative aspect of the analysis.

Homelessness is a non-homogenous social problem, not easy to diagnose. In Poland there is still a deficit in research regarding this issue and studies conducted so far focus for example on the question of homelessness itself, marginalisation resulting from it, analysis of the social environment of the homeless, heterotopy of homelessness and presentation of practical solutions aimed at this group of beneficiaries (e.g. aid programmes, activity of specific institutions). In recent years, a system of shelters has been established allowing the homeless "to survive". However, more often than not they reinforce the existing condition rather than allow for overcoming it. One of the elements which are a decisive factor in the process of overcoming homelessness involves finding, taking up and sustaining work. Professional activity means performing a specific job. In case of the homeless the option of obtaining a job is connected with a number of difficulties. Remembering about that, the author of the herein article has attempted to discuss the issue of employment activation of the homeless.
