Indywidualizm w średniowieczu wobec faktów językowych

The article raises the multifaceted issue of individualism which can be perceived as positive in some social groups, or negative in others. The paper presents the traditional ways of defining this concept contained in lexicographical descriptions. It also discusses the contradictory tendencies in understanding the phenomenon of individualism. Taking a historical perspective in the discussion about individualism leads to the conclusion that its symptoms existed in the fifteenth-century language. The article aims to present the medieval vocabulary used to describe individual attitudes (the examples of the meanings of lexemes and the semantic changes they underwent). Particular attention is paid to the Old Polish words describing man as an independent individual endowed with free will.

Artykuł porusza wieloaspektowe zagadnienie indywidualizmu, przez niektóre grupy społeczne odbieranego jako zjawisko pozytywne, przez inne zaś jako negatywne. Przedstawiono w nim tradycyjne sposoby definiowania tego pojęcia zawarte w opisach leksykograficznych. W artykule omówiono również sprzeczne tendencje w rozumieniu tego zjawiska. Przyjęcie perspektywy historycznej w badaniach nad indywidualizmem pozwala stwierdzić, że jego przejawy były obecne już w okresie średniowiecza. Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie staropolskiego słownictwa służącego do wyrażania postaw indywidualnych (przykłady znaczeń leksemów oraz zmian semantycznych, jakim podlegały). Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na słownictwo ukazujące człowieka jako niezależną jednostkę obdarzoną wolną wolą.

The article presents a brief history of linguistic contacts between Polish and oriental languages, mainly the Turkic ones. The authors have created a word corpus containing about 1000 Polish lexemes having a connection with the Turkic languages. This list contains direct and indirect borrowings, and derivatives of these loans. The paper also includes an alphabetical index of the Turkic loan-words that have been discussed in it.
