W artykule przedstawiony został projekt stworzenia nowego pola w analizach polszczyzny medialnej. Dotychczas w badaniach akcentowano perspektywę nadawcy i poszczególnych przekazów medialnych. Niniejsze rozważania mają na celu rozszerzenie zakresu analiz o odpowiednio ukierunkowane badania językowych zachowań odbiorców i/lub określonych grup odbiorczych. Obok ogólnej charakterystyki współczesnych modeli użytkowania komunikatów medialnych oraz omówienia czynników konstytuujących powstawanie odpowiednich wspólnot dyskursu w artykule przedstawiono konkretne propozycje wykorzystania określonych paradygmatów językoznawczych w projektowanych działaniach.

The article presents an idea of creating a new field of analysis of the Polish language used in the media. What has been emphasised so far is the perspective of the sender and specific media transmissions. The point of the discussion is to broaden the scope of analysis to include appropriately oriented studies of linguisitc behaviour of the viewers and/or specific target groups. Apart from a general description of contemporary models of usage of media messages and the discussion of factors organising the establishment of appropriate discourse communities, the article comprises specific ideas of using certain linguistic paradigms in planned activities.

W artykule podejmuje się problem tożsamości językoznawstwa oraz ustalenia granic tej dyscypliny wobec kulturoznawstwa, głównej dziś perspektywy w koncepcji humanistyki zintegrowanej. Autor dowodzi, że w wyniku zasadniczych zmian w kulturze, inflacji dotychczasowych paradygmatów naukowych, uniwersalnego we współczesnej humanistyce wzorca krytycznych badań kulturowych, wszechogarniającej semiozy oraz wspólnoty podstawowych pojęć analitycznych dzisiejsza refleksja lingwistyczna sytuuje się w polu szeroko rozumianego kulturoznawstwa. Warunkiem autonomizującym lingwistykę w polu kulturoznawstwa jest sam język jako przedmiot badań, a więc teleologiczny zamiar (celowe ukierunkowanie na verbum danego tekstu) oraz stosowany metadyskurs (odpowiednia aparatura pojęciowa i instrumentarium nazewnicze).

The article discusses the identity of theoretical linguistics and attempts to draw its boundaries in light of culture studies, which is currently the main perspective within the concept of integrated humanities. The author proves that contemporary linguistic thought finds its place within the field of broadly understood culture studies, which results from: significant changes in culture, inflation of past scientific paradigms and of the universal model for critical culture studies, omnipresent semiosis, and from the collectivity of basic analytical notions. The condition that makes theoretical linguistics autonomous within the field of culture studies is the language itself, which is an object of study, in other words it is the teleological attempt (deliberate focusing on the verbum of a given text) and the currently used metadiscourse (appropriate notional apparatus and terminological inventory).

The article presents the main theoretical and methodological assumptions of ‘medialinguistics’ – a subdiscipline of linguistics, whose research concentrates on linguistic features found in the media. Such an approach is based on cultural linguistics, cognitive semantics, cultural media studies as well as a critical analysis of discourse.

In the article the author discusses the way of showing photography in films. Photography is defined here: as a single picture, an act of taking a photo and as a specific way of expressing and discovering reality. The ways of showing photography in particular films were amounted to one main aspect. The author, using the example of 25 films, proves that photography in the cinema is still – despite contemporary awareness of picture ontology – used as a source of cognition, medium of truth and lie, visual form of testifying to material reality.

Article discusses linguistic conceptualisations of autoerotic activities-sexual sphere rejected culturally and linguistically, mostly in European culture. Analyses of particular linguistic forms taken from dictionaries and the Internet, are based on a broad cultural and ideological background according to methodological principles of cultural linguistics. There was especially shown an influence of religion and ideology, locating sexual activities in the field of medicine. Those discourses still “command” semiotically and linguistically of the term of autoerotism. Analysis of collected verbal constructions has shown that semantic field of autoerotism contains following elements: 1. official names (found in dictionaries); 2. Socially fixed neutral euphemisms; 3. fixed periphrases with different degree of formality (from vulgar, through colloquial and in everyday use to those used jokingly); 4. periphrases created on occasions which are the most common, also with different degree of formality.

In the article I discuss the problem of contemporary Polish political communication. In its communicative dimension, the contemporary mediatized reality has become an area of functioning of polarized and linguistically and ideologically separate communities: media broadcasters with their offer and separate recipient groups (with different competencies). The polarity of worldview and its linguistic realizations is the most visible in the Polish official political discourse. In the media it is realized mostly by linguistic activities of purely ideological character. Such polarized political discourse of the media has led to ideologically charged ‘double vision’ of reality and its conceptualization ‘Us – Them’ being the most characteristic trait of the contemporary media communication in our country. The phenomena discussed above, typical for current political discourse, are worrying because they draw our attention to a linguistic – and seemingly historical – category: to newspeak.

In the article I discuss the linguistic layer of the animated TV series “Włatcy móch”. Main characters’ language realizes assumptions of the “language of rebellion” and it rebels against the society. Standards of communication functioning in the series reveal the domination of machines of reprisal: school, family and church, and forms of rebellion against them. It is expressed mainly by breaking the linguistic taboo (insults, vulgarisms) and social taboo (various obscenities). However, there is no authentism, because these are elements of conscious linguistic creation. The examined series perfectly meets the standards of mainstream, where the language of rebellion is conforming and adjusting to the requirements of the official media market.

The article discusses the current condition of film education in schools, juxtaposed with characteristics of the culture of participation (the culture of taking part). Inadequacies of the classic model of film education can be overcome in teaching by highlighting media practices of young people. The use of their semiotic activity would have a great educational value, and at the same time it would foster the creation of a critical approach to forms of media presentations and of responsibility for the actions taken.

Intermediality of the cinema has been discussed many times, and what is especially indicated is a specific “imprint” that was left on film by the theatre. Similarities between a movie and a performance are described well by the mise-en-scene category (placing on the stage). By replacing the analogue picture with the digital one, the mise-en-page category becomes more familiar to today’s mechanisms of creating film. Intermediality of modern film should be seen as a peculiar realization of common points of arts and media. In Ivan Vyrypaev’s Oxygen, functioning of these intermedialities is based on mutual circulations of different means of expression, both theatrical and cinematographical. Vyrypaev based his film’s construction on a convention of recording a CD, consistently using poetics of a postmodern videoclip.
