The author discusses a concept of ‘toy libraries', so far unknown in Poland, providing unique library services focused on toys and games lending. Toy libraries offer all children access to toys and games and provide their supervisors with educational publications. Specific functions, history and types of toy libraries are presented, with particular emphasis on toy libraries for disabled children. The development and evolution of toy library networks is mentioned and most important international, national and regional associations for toy libraries are listed. The paper ends with an attempt to describe Polish affiliations with foreign toy library networks.

Zagadnienie architektury budynków przeznaczonych na potrzeby bibliotek publicznych regularnie pojawiało się na łamach naukowych i fachowych periodyków polskich i zagranicznych. Nieczęsto jednak autorzy poruszali temat w kontekście przestrzeni dla najmłodszej kategorii czytelników – dzieci. Niniejsza praca uzupełnia stan wiedzy w polskiej literaturze przedmiotu, prezentując zmiany, jakie zachodziły na przestrzeni lat w podejściu do projektowania budynków i wnętrz bibliotek publicznych dla dzieci.

The issue of architecture of buildings intended for the public libraries regularly appeared on the pages of Polish and foreign scientific and professional periodicals. However, it was not often that the authors raised the topic in the context of space for the youngest category of readers – children. This work complements the state of knowledge in the Polish literature on the subject by presenting changes that have taken place over the years in the approach to designing buildings and interiors of public libraries for children.

Die Architekturfragen der Gebäude, die die Bedürfnisse der öffentlichen Bibliotheken erfüllen sollten, erscheinen regelmäßig in den wissenschaftlichen und sachkundigen polnischen und ausländischen Zeitschriften. Nicht selten setzen sich die Autoren mit diesem Thema erst im Zusammenhang mit dem Raum für die jüngsten Leser, d. i. die Kinder auseinander. Die vorliegende Arbeit ergänzt den Wissensstand in der polnischen Sachliteratur und schildert die Änderungen, die über die Jahre im Bereich der Gebäude- und Innenarchitektur der öffentlichen Kinderbibliotheken stattfanden.

Biblioteki publiczne dla dzieci zajmują szczególne miejsce na kartach historii polskiego bibliotekarstwa, od wielu lat ulegają transformacjom, starając się dostosować do potrzeb coraz bardziej wymagających w erze cyfrowej czytelników. Do początku lat 90. XX w. niewiele wspominano w krajowej literaturze fachowej o obecności dzieci w wieku 0–3 lat w bibliotekach, od tego czasu sytuacja uległa znacznej poprawie. Artykuł wprowadza w problematykę usług dla dzieci najmłodszych i ich rodziców realizowanych w polskich bibliotekach, charakteryzując jednocześnie historię i specyfikę obsługi tej grupy wiekowej w bibliotekach na świecie. Zaprezentowane także zostały wyniki badań na temat poziomu dostępności i repertuaru usług oferowanych w polskich placówkach bibliotecznych dla dzieci w wieku 0–3 lat.

Public libraries for children have a special place in the history of Polish librarianship. For years they have been trying to adapt to the needs of an increasingly demanding readers of the digital age. Until early 90s of the 20th century little was mentioned in the national peer-reviewed literature about the presence of children aged 0–3 in libraries. Since then the situation has improved considerably. The article introduces the issue of services for the youngest children and their parents implemented in Polish libraries, characterizing both the history and the uniqueness of this age group in libraries of the world. It also presents results of research on availability and repertoire of services offered to children aged 0–3 in Polish libraries.

The article reminds one of the most popular polish writers – Magdalena Samozwaniec (1894–1972). The content focuses on the review of all books by M. Samozwaniec (first and next editions). It also presents figures of illustrators. The author describes the cooperation between M. Samozwaniec and the publishers, as well as magazines. Basing on described topics, the author takes a reflection on the phenomenon of M. Samozwaniec’s popularity as a writer in Poland and tries to answer the question: why is her writing almost completely forgotten by publishers in the beginning of the 21st century?

The article presents the issue of Kalisz Church Chronicle written by priest Jan Nepomucen Sobczyn´ ski, the administrator of St Nicolas’ church in Kalisz between 1901–1942. The author brings forward figure of the priest and the construction of the document created between 1901–1938. Events shown in the chronicle have taken place in the St Nicholas’ parish and on the area of Kalisz town. This article tries to remind the value of the document as a important historical source of information.

The book is a tool of cultural transfer, helping children and adults in different life situations (learning, leisure). Behind it there are people, publish-ers, printers, librarians who shape the culture at various levels (local, regional, national, international). Book institutions play a significant role in the intergen-erational and intercultural transfer. The article presents the initiatives of the Workshop of Dictionary of Polish book labourers for the biographical registra-tion of people associated with the process of creating, distributing and collect-ing prints in Poland.

Książka jest narzędziem transferu kulturowego, pomagającym dzieciom i osobom dorosłym w różnych sytuacjach życiowych (nauka, czas wolny). Za nią stoją ludzie, wydawcy, drukarze, bibliotekarze, którzy kształtują kulturę na różnych poziomach (lokalnym, regionalnym, krajowym, międzynarodowym). Instytucje książki odgrywają znaczącą rolę w procesie transferu kultury – międzypokoleniowym i międzykulturowym. W artykule przedstawione zostały działania Pracowni Słownika pracowników książki polskiej na rzecz rejestracji biograficznej osób związanych z procesem tworzenia, rozpowszechniania oraz gromadzenia druków w Polsce.

This article presents reflections on Norwegian public library services for children aged 0–3 made during study visits carried out in 2011 and 2013. Services have been analyzed on the example of two branches of the central public library in Oslo (Deichmanske – Oslo Public Library) in Lambertseter and Grünerløkka, as well as libraries located in nearby towns – Lørenskog, Drammen, Øvre Eiker in Hokksund and Gjovik. The author shares observations on the operation and the diversity of activities offered to the youngest readers, postulating a greater emphasis to create special pre-reading strategies.

Artykuł przedstawia rozważania nad usługami norweskich bibliotek publicznych dla dzieci w wieku 0-3 lat poczynione podczas wizyt studyjnych zrealizowanych w 2011 i 2013 r. Analizie poddane zostały usługi dwóch filii centralnej biblioteki publicznej w Oslo (Deichmanske – Oslo Public Library) w Lambertseter i Grünerløkka, a także bibliotek rozmieszczonych w pobliskich miejscowościach – Lørenskog, Drammen, Øvre Eiker w Hokksund oraz Gjøvik. Autorka dzieli się obserwacjami na temat obsługi i różnorodności zajęć oferowanych najmłodszym czytelnikom, postulując większy nacisk władz bibliotecznych na tworzenie specjalnych strategii przed czytelniczych.

The article presents the imput of prof HannaTadeusiewicz’s work on “The Dictionary of Polish Book Labourers”. Since 1965 she was closely associated with this project, at first working in the Library of the University of Lodz, later in the Chair of the Library and Information Science at the University of Lodz.
