Drug abuse is a growing social problem in Poland and is a particularly serious problem in the Military. The conditions of military service may be a factor that stimulates drug addiction among soldiers, particularly those who are psychically and physically weak and not adapted to team work. The psychical stress that results from the abrupt breaking of existing bonds and social relationships (family, colleagues, partners) is intensified by spatial limits (military barracks), and the character of military units (personal freedom limitation). Another important aspect is, natural in this situation, access to weapons and the nature of tasks performed by a modern army. Yet the army continues to recruit young people who are physically and mentally weaker and weaker. In face of this problem, the commanders, supervisors and teachers are required to possess not only psychological and pedagogical knowledge, but also ethical and moral awareness. The article is based on empirical results of the test conducted in 2007 among 100 conscription soldiers of the Lublin Garrison of the Polish Army.

Wszyscy rodzice przeżywają stres, jednak rodzice posiadający dziecko niepełnosprawne (lub zaburzone w rozwoju) przeżywają więcej sytuacji stresowych. Wielu badaczy zajmujących się sytuacją rodziców posiadających dzieci z różnego rodzaju zaburzeniami rozwojowymi, podkreśla, że obecność dziecka zaburzonego w rozwoju — szczególnie nadpobudliwego psychoruchowo — wywiera wielostronny wpływ na funkcjonowanie rodziny oraz jest poważnym źródłem stresu. Wiążą się z koniecznością poświęcenia opiece nad dzieckiem nadpobudliwym psychoruchowo więcej sił, energii i czasu. Wpływa również na sytuację społeczną oraz zdrowotną rodzin, zarówno w sensie fizycznym jak i psychicznym. Jest źródłem ciągłych frustracji a nawet depresji. Wielu rodziców, którzy nie mają najmniejszych problemów z dziećmi zdrowymi okazują się zupełnie bezradnymi wobec dziecka nadpobudliwego psychoruchowo.

All parents experience stress, however, parents who have children with disabilities (or a developmentally impaired child) go through many more stressful situations. Many researchers who study the situation of parents who have children with various developmental disorders emphasise that having a child with developmental disorders, especially one with ADHD, has multidimensional impact on the functioning of the child’s family and is a major source of stress. Such parents have to devote more energy and time to the upbringing of their child. It also influences the social situation and health conditions of the family, both in the physical and psychological sense. Many parents who do not have any problems with their healthy children turn out to be completely helpless in relation to a child with ADHD.
