W myśl art. 70 Konstytucji RP „[…] każdy ma prawo do nauki […]. Władze publiczne zapewniają obywatelom powszechny i równy dostęp do wykształcenia. W tym celu tworzą i wspierają systemy indywidualnej pomocy finansowej i organizacyjnej dla uczniów i studentów”. Tekst składa się z trzech części, z których w pierwszej omówione zostaną formy asystentury w wybranych krajach Unii Europejskiej. Druga część to rozpatrzenie wybranych definicji pojęć kluczowych dla artykułu: wsparcia oraz bezradności. Ostatnia, trzecia część zawiera prezentację i omówienie zebranych danych dotyczących oczekiwanych przez studentów z niepełnosprawnością form wsparcia ze strony asystentów edukacyjnych. Celem artykułu nie jest jasna i jednoznaczna odpowiedź na postawione w tytule pytanie, ale skłonienie do refleksji nad efektywnością opisanych w artykule działań. Decydując się pomóc – należy robić to mądrze i z pożytkiem dla innych. Źle, niewłaściwie świadczone wsparcie może prowadzić do wystąpienia poczucia bezradności i beznadziejności.

In accordance with art. 70 of the Constitution, „[…] everyone has the right to education [...]. Public authorities shall ensure universal and equal access to education. To this end, they shall establish and support systems for individual financial and organizational assistance to pupils and students”. The text consists of three parts, in the first of which are discussed forms of assistantship in selected countries of the European Union. The second part is the consideration of some definitions of key terms for the article: support and helplessness. The last, third part includes the presentation and discussion of the collected data on expectations of students with disabilities concerning forms of support from educational assistants. The aim of the article is not a clear and unambiguous answer to the question posed in the title, but is to encourage reflection on the effectiveness of the activities described in the article. Deciding to help – should be done wisely and for the benefit of others. Wrong, wrongly rendered support can lead to feelings of helplessness and hopelessness.
