In the paper the authoress discusses conditions necessary for the Menzerath-Altmann law to hold. The research was conducted on Polish and English syntax and a suitable comparison between texts under the research has been made. In the opening of the article, the statistical language law is presented and the technique of its research has been outlined. They are followed by all necessary assumptions deciding whether the law would hold and the conditions for it to hold.

In this article the authoress presents the properties of a mathematical model for the frequency distribution function describing the Krylov law. She also outlines the uniform procedure to verify the law. She found the sufficient number of lexemes to be gathered for the empirical data to be convergent to a certain function and she points out to how they may be gathered.

The aim of the article is to present the author's most recent outcomes of investigation into the Menzerath-Altmann law: the conditions for it to hold. He demonstrates (1) that the peculiarity of the law arises when the mathematical formula is applied before verification, (2) that the Sherman law must be applied to the methodology of the verification of the law, and finally (3) that the law does not hold for certain texts.
