The study was aimed at the evaluation of the effect of acceptance of addiction from alcohol as a disease on long-term abstinence among male alcoholics attending in outpatient clinics. The attempt of finding personal resources which are connected with disease acceptance was taken too. 132 Jan Chodkiewicz The patients were evaluated twice: at the beginning (N= 194) and the end of therapy (N = 98). According to the results of a questionnaire two subgroups on the grounds of the duration of their abstinence after alcohol treatment were distinguished. The first subgroup of 52 patients (A) abstained for over 12 months, while the other (B) included 28 patients who had relapses in that period. On the beginning of the therapy the disease acceptance differentiate patients from these two groups. A-group patients has statistical higher level of disease acceptance than B-group patients. This difference is invariable despite of growth of disease acceptance in both groups in the course of treatment. Research on the relationship between sense of coherence according to Aaron Antonovsky’ theory of the sense of coherence and process of professional burning out is situated in the field of personal resources engaged in coping with organizational stress in helping proffessions. Two methods were used: The Maslach Burnout Inventory for educators and The scale of Sense of Coherence (SOC) by Antonovsky. MBI allows to measure three components of burn-out syndrome: emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and the lack of personal accomplishment. SOC investigates three components of sense of coherence: sense of comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfullness. Statistical analysis of results was proceeded (analysis of correlations, variance and regression). Obtained results point on significant dependence of susceptibility for professional burning out (particularly emotional exhaustion) from components of sense of coherence. However the most interesting are results concerning the dependency between typological dynamics of coherence and professional burn-out.

The current article deals with issues related to organisational behaviours, as perceived in the light of social and economic transformations that are going on in our country. The author claims that a change in an organisation should be analysed from the point of view of an individual. Thus, the author points at the whole spectrum of individual behavioural reactions to the process of transformations – from resistance, through indifference, to enthusiasm andco-operation. These views lead the author to suggest a theoretical model of personal and situational determinants of readiness for change in organisation, which constitutes the basic theme of the article.

Menopause Symptom List was developed in Australia as a tool to depict severity and intensity of symptoms related to menopause. Three scales of the questionnaire – psychological, vasomotor and somatic symptoms – were extracted by factor analysis. The paper gives account of the Polish version of the questionnaire (Moje samopoczucie), its validity and reliability. Factor analysis has confirmed the original 3 factors structure of the questionnaire. Realiability coefficients (test-retest, Cronbach’s and Spearmann-Brown’s coefficient) were sufficiently high. Validity was estimated by comparing the results of the questionnaire and a physician’s evaluation of intensity and severity of menopausal symptoms. Most subjects with high questionnaire scores were also given high scores on medical record. Results of women with different menopausal status were significantly different. The scores changed significantly in women treated with hormone replacement therapy. All these results indicate that Polish version of Menopause Symptom List is a valid tool to be used in studies on menopausal transition.

The purpose of the article is to present the main problems connected with the research into mood influence on different areas of human functioning. The author enumerates five basic problems which are: (1) the ambiguous use of the terms which refer to the affective processes, (2) the lack of mood induction procedure and the mood estimation measures which would prevent the subjects from guessing the aim of the study, (3) in the case of research into relatively permanent mood, the inconsistency which makes it impossible to clearly distinguish the individuals in a depressive mood from those who have been clinically diagnosed as suffering from depression, (4) the lack of research done on the subjects who are constantly in a positive mood, (5) the relatively small amount of research dealing with mood influence on specific aspects of human functioning as well as with meditative mechanisms. According to the author, finding the solution to the observed problems would make it possible to explain a lot of discrepancies in the results of already-conducted research.

The paper describes the construction of a tool designed to measure opinions on the menopause. The main assumptions and the process of construction is described step by step. The tool consists of 35 items and allows to evaluate both positive and negative aspects of the menopause (POZ and NEG subscales) on 5-points Likert type scale. It allows also for comparisons of both types of opinions (DIF index). Reliability coefficients (test-retest, Cronbach’s α and Spearman-Brown’s coefficient) are sufficiently high. The temporary norms were calculated based on frequency distribution from a study of 175 women.
