The goal of this paper includes (1) interpretation of the part of Štúr ´s intellectual world, which is related to justification of the necessity of a literary Slovak language and, (2) related interpretation of today awareness of Slovak identity. Štúr strengthened this awareness at the level of system rationality and decisively contributed to the fact that the self-identification instinct of Slovaks gained a solid rational support and the Slovak identity was cultivated on a convincing intellectual basis. Nowadays, the Slovak identity has already been reproducing naturally. The naturally reproduced awareness of identity as well as the self-identification instinct of Slovaks as the origin of this awareness has been stimulated by an intensive intercultural interaction esp. within the European Union, which is compatible with its cultural strategy aimed at preservation of EU cultural diversity.

The author argues that the linguistic socio-scientific communication is a challenge to the linguists since the contact of linguistics with the general public is only on the level of scientific popularisation. There is no doubt that currently this communication has to be an integral part of the linguistic research process and an instrument for increasing of interestedness of the population in linguistics. First the paper defines the concept of socio-scientific communication and points up three aspects of the problem of this communication: consensus, implementation and participation. Following on from this, it will look at some of the barriers between linguistics and public with special emphasis on the epistemological literacy of laymen and on their attitude towards the science. The conclusion of this paper gives an illustration of the linguistic socio-scientific communication: a good example of socio-scientific issues is the literary language.

This paper is intended to be an introduction to the elucidation of the mutual understanding on the basis of the concept interpretation. The author raises the question about how is it possible to understand each other in spite of the fact that the mental world is immediately inaccessible. He argues that the possibility of the mutual understanding is an anthropological constant: the human being is set for understanding as a result of the evolutional mature of his interpretational ability. The major part of the text is an attempt at explanation of the role of interpretation in the process of shaping of the subject. It is argued that the germ of the subjectivity is the instinct for self-preservation which determines the fundamental relation of the human to the world: the world is seen through the lens of egocentrism. Showing that the possibility of the mutual understanding of egocentric subjects is a deceptive paradox helps us comprehend the anthropological foundation of this phenomenon. The final part of the text outlines the problem of the mutual understanding in the real interactional conditions and focuses the attention on three fundamental factors: ego, language, egoism

The presented paper is an attempt to reconstruct the inception and the function of the dialectic opposition between the categories idealness and realness in regard to the standard language. The author answers the question how a linguist could attain to the point that he infers the axiological ideal of the standard language from the epistemological ideal of this language. There is a fundamental problem, at the approach to the cultivation of this language, whether the linguist submits the epistemological idealness to the axiological one. From the different interpretation of the relation between these two categories two strategies of the cultivation of the standard language have appeared.

The paper is the result of a sociolinguistic research that the authors have realized in the South Slovakia in order to answer three questions concerning (1) the relation between the Slovaks and the Hungarians in this territory with regard to their languages, (2) the potential problems in connection with the language law and (3) the real influence of the politicians upon the coexistence of the Slovaks and the Hungarians with respect to the language tolerance. The motive of the research was the question whether there is any need to regulate the using of the Slovak language by a special law. The paper is a contribution to a systematic mapping of the linguistic situation in the territory of the South Slovakia in order to acquire reliable information that can be useful for the political decisions. The authors start from the thesis that the natural coexistence of the Slovaks and the Hungarians is the optimal modus of accomplishing the desired state and they challenge the role of the language law in the natural coexistence of the population in this territory.
