The author assumes an axiological understanding of culture (‘the culture is a system of man’s intrinsic values’). In his view, the spiritual history of mankind has been dominated by three forms of culture: primitive (xenophobic, naturalistic, related to security, collectivistic), traditional (hierarchic, idealistic, ascetic, collectivist or individualistic) and contemporary (egalitarian, utilitarian, hedonistic, auto-centric). They have appeared consecutively. Today they function side by side.

In matters of life people are not rational: more often they follow the emotions than a reason. The author presents a simple explanation of this fact. In his opinion, the rational beings care, above all, for themselves. As a result, they neglect the transfer of their genes, resulting in their genes falling out of the population. The medium of the basic value of nature, which is having the children, is emotions. For this reason, homo sapiens species is dominated by the genes of people, whose emotions dampen the reason. The nature created the intelligence not to reach the truth, but to support procreation. If the intelligence inhibits the procreation, the nature narrows its use.

According to the author, the current axiological revolution has an objective reason: reversibility of live misfortune, and a subjective one: it contributes to the development of the market economy. Due to the latter reason, it is supported by the rulers of the modern world. The axiological revolution gets rid of the previous moral rigour and the modern hedonistic and utilitarian culture replaces the traditional ascetic and idealistic culture. The increase in consumption is the main objective. In order to achieve it, the creators of axiological revolution draw the consecutive social groups, in particular women, into the zone of developed consumption. Simultaneously, they propagate the modern culture systematically on the grand scale. Within the operation of the market expansion the approving modern school replaces for example the demanding traditional school. Apart from their economic function, all these operations possess a political aspect. Their political consequence comprises the weakening of the social resistance to state omnipotence. The presented explanation of the modern axiological revolution sources has a coherent justification. The clear correlation is visible between the market needs and the pace of changes

Autor odróżnia sposoby odniesienia się jednostki do swej grupy macierzystej (rodziny, plemienia, narodu). Odróżnia solidarność z narodem (parapatriotyzm, patriotyzm, nacjonalizm) oraz brak solidarności (indywidualizm, kosmopolityzm, internacjonalizm). Swą uwagę skupia na różnicy pomiędzy patriotyzmem a nacjonalizmem. Dla nacjonalistów wartością najwyższą jest potęga narodu. Nacjonaliści domagają się, aby wszyscy członkowie narodu poświęcili wszystkie swe siły umacnianiu narodowej potęgi. Dla patriotów wartością – jedynie naczelną – jest chwała ojczyzny. W zakończeniu autor pokazuje formy patriotyzmu podczas wojny oraz podczas pokoju.

The author distinguishes between the individual’s reference to his parent group (family, tribe, nation). He distinguishes solidarity with the nation (parapatriotism, patriotism, nationalism) and the lack of solidarity (individualism, cosmopolitanism, internationalism). He focuses on the difference between patriotism and nationalism. For the nationalists the supreme value is the power of the nation. The nationalists demand that all members of the nation sacrifice all their strength to strengthen the national power. For patriots, the supreme value is the glory of a homeland. In the end part of the book, the author presents the forms of patriotism during the war and during peace.

Autor poddaje analizie Podręcznik mądrości tego świata Józefa Marii Bocheńskiego, Tractatus ethico-praxeologicus, jak o nim pisze. Zalecenia podane w Podręczniku sytuuje na szerszym tle. W tym celu konstruuje „kwadrat prakseologiczny”. Jednym z wierzchołków kwadratu jest autohedonizm, postawa zachwalana przez Bocheńskiego. Trzy inne to perfekcjonizm, altruizm oraz kreatywizm. W tekście autor rozważa kolejno dyspozycje Bocheńskiego odnoszące się do a) losu, b) innych ludzi, c) zapanowania nad sobą. Jego zdaniem ich rozsądne zastosowanie pozwoli uniknąć wielu błędów życiowych. W sumie podane zalecenia stanowią fundament mądrości osobniczej. Ta jednak jest sprzeczna z mądrością społeczną, wyrażającą się w moralności i obyczajach. Na tym polega kontrowersyjność propozycji Bocheńskiego.

The author analyses the Podręcznik mądrości tego świata [Handbook of Wisdom of the Ordinary World] written by Józef Maria Bocheński, or Tractatus ethico-praxeologicus, as he calls it. He places the recommendations given in the Handbook against a broader background. To this end, he creates a “praxeological square”. One of the square’s vertices is autohedonism, an attitude praised by Bocheński. Three others are perfectionism, altruism and creativism. The author subsequently considers Bocheński’s instructions regarding a) fate, b) other people, c) self-control. In his opinion, their reasonable use allows for avoiding many mistakes in life. In fact, the recommendations given are the foundation of individual wisdom. This, however, is contrary to social wisdom, expressed in morality and customs. That is the controversy of Bocheński’s proposal.

According to the author, intelligence is not connected immanently with the awareness. Awareness is the final form of feeling, but there are intelligent objects which are not aware and which do not feel anything. The examples are presented in the genetic codes of particular species and, for instance, in an anthill. These both structure can solve their problems without external help and it is the essence of each intelligence. A human being is a combination of three elements of existence: matter, applications saved in brain (thus abstract objects) and non-spatial self (the object of a spiritual nature). The human intelligence is independent of awareness even though it co-exists and connected with it.
