In the iconography connected with the war – predominantly a male occupation – a woman had a special significance. During World War I the place of women continued to be determined by: tradition, family, fixed roles and social and cultural norms. The spheres of private as well as social (professional, political) life of women and men remained separate. In the comprehensive policy a woman was a man’s background, except for not very popular belligerent suffragists, fighting for the rights and position of women. The woman barely entered the so-called male professions. Belief in the intellectual and physical weakness of women was the basis of determining the domain to which women had no access – i.e. especially policy and associated with it propaganda. A “weak” woman needed a man’s care and support, and this fact suited well for the war propaganda. The approach to women was changed during the war, as it was usual in such cases before. Women had to take over jobs abandoned by men. Military action, carried out using an increasing number of weapons, equipment, requiring a constant supply made it necessary to recruit women in positions left by men. Work had to become in this situation a manifestation of patriotic attitudes rather than a whim of women trying to emancipate. Even the ruling elites were interested in the change of common thinking. The war undoubtedly accelerated liberalization in the approach to the role of women, because the traditional social order had been heavily disturbed. Among the many features of the fair sex, the beauty became slowly a trump in the game led by agitators. Ethics and other features present in the female personal pattern were considered less important. Therefore on the posters of this period we can see a caring woman-sister, a woman-patriot urging a man to fight and enlist in the ranks of the armed, a woman knitting socks, collecting funds for military purposes, saving food, producing food and items needed at the front and in everyday life (in the gardens of the victory and factories), a woman-“conscience” calling for revenge and helping the victims of the war. We also have a woman as a unifying symbol of the nation, identifying society’s values, freedom, civilization (Columbia, Britain, Daughter of Zion). Woman from the poster and illustration represented a new canon of female beauty and thus attracted even more attention to the conveyed messages.
The Polish Red Cross workers in the years 1945–1947 provided support to state authorities and local government with regard to caring of people and achieving the state goals related to takeover, development, and Polonization of the territory. Lack of personnel and finance, difficult political and social situation posed particular challenge, required composure and devotion. Not all the workers were able to endure hard working conditions, fast pace of life, and the sense of threat at that time. Those who took up hard labour and weren’t scared of difficulties played a positive role in the life of the inhabitants of Western Pomerania.

Pracownicy Polskiego Czerwonego Krzyża w latach 1945-1947 byli wsparciem dla władz państwowych i administracji lokalnej w opiece nad ludnością i realizacji celów państwa w zakresie przejęcia, zagospodarowania, spolonizowania terenu. Brak kadry, finansów, trudna sytuacja polityczna i społeczna stawiała przed nimi szczególne wyzwania, wymagała opanowania i poświecenia.
There are events that change the approach of the scholars, the military men and the whole societies to stability and security of all the world, of their surroundings and of their own lives. Undoubtedly, such an event was the tsunami that caused the failure of the nuclear power plant in Fukushima. That catastrophe may be compared to the one in Hiroshima and the one in Chernobyl. In the present-day Europe similar threats are posed by the worn-out power plants in France (e.g. in Flamanville) and in Belgium (e.g. in Tihange). Especially the ones situated in the vicinity of a sea in extremely bad weather conditions may contaminate not only water resources but food as well in Europe. The radioactive Chernobyl fallout still penetrates the potential sources of animal feed and human food. Not without reason do ecologists and ordinary people, bearing in mind the past experiences, demand the dangerous nuclear power plants be closed down. The problem consists in the fact that it is difficult to replace a NPP and produce the same amount of energy in another way. The same threat is posed by hackers, who carry out terrorist attacks; when they take control of the systems of critical infrastructure it is a threat to the whole continent. The number of catastrophic phenomena, such as hurricanes, are on the increase, and so are the above mentioned threats; therefore we should ask ourselves whether we are really prepared to evacuate and secure people in case of a nuclear crisis. We have been taught a lesson by the past nuclear failures that in crises human behaviour is unpredictable and it may turn out that not everybody will be saved.

We współczesnej Europie podobne zagrożenie stwarzają wyeksploatowane elektrownie francuskie (np. Flamanville) i belgijskie (np.
History is strongly linked to the country and its citizens. It identifies the nation and the country, it helps to preserve the identity by reminding the people of their legacy. That is why it is a perfect means of building a country's brand and evoking associations with its location and society. Poland is constantly searching for new markets for its products, even in countries in which it is barely present. One of the countries whose market Poland is trying to get into is Japan, a country whose citizens do not know much about Poland. In order to facilitate the relations between these two countries, the Polish government decided to launch an information campaign about Poland's past and present, its possibilities, its significance in the international arena, and its people. Considering the character of Japanese culture a comic has been chosen to be the adequate medium.
