Teocelo: trabajo comunitario frente a la escasez de recursos

Teocelo, es un municipio localizado a 18 km de Xalapa (México). Como muchos municipios pequeños, tiene problemas de recursos económicos, sin embargo frente a esta escasez, la administración pública y la comunidad, con la asesoría de la Universidad Veracruzana, han emprendido una serie de proyectos sustentables cuyos beneficios tienen impacto en la economía del municipio, en la educación y sobre todo en el medioambiente. Uno de ellos es la producción de lombricomposta (fertilizante orgánico producto de la digestión natural de las lombrices). Es una de las iniciativas más exitosas e imitadas entre los municipios de la región. Los vecinos separan la basura, los residuos reciclables se venden a empresas y recicladoras y los residuos orgánicos se utilizan para lombricomposta que después se vende. Los habitantes no pagan el impuesto a la limpia pública y el ayuntamiento obtiene los beneficios de la venta de la basura reciclable y de la lombricomposta

Teocelo is a town located 18 km away from Xalapa (Mexico). Like many small towns, it has problems with economic resources, however, faced with such shortage, the local government and the community, with the assistance of the University of Veracruz, have undertaken a number of sustainable projects. The benefits derived from this activity have an impact on the local economy, especially in the fields of education and environment. One of these is a production of worm compost (organic fertilizer). It is one of the most successful local initiatives. The inhabitants separate the waste, the recyclable part of it is sold to recycling companies and the organic, after vermicomposting, is also sold. Consequently, the citizens do not pay taxes for Teocelo public sanitation and the municipality gets benefits from selling recyclable waste and vermicomposting
