CONTEMPORARY FEMINISTIC CRITICISM: ANOTHER STATE OF MATTER The article recapitulates briefly the history and achievements of Polish feministic criticism in the course of the last two decades, so as to analyze its present condition and immediate future perspectives against this background. According to the authoress, after the period of considerable successes and evident research autonomy, the academic identity of this branch of literary studies, became somewhat obliterated. Feministic criticism operates today as a participant of various alliances and methodological constellations, among others, together with the reflection from under the sign of gender or queer; it also appears together with post-colonial or eco-critical thought, as well as with post-humanism, new historicism or cultural materialism. And although the ease with which it enters into alliances with other cultural discourses in literature studies, obliterates somewhat its formerly sharp and prominent contours, at the same time it provides it with energy which is necessary to exist and generate new projects; at the same time, special emphasis is attached to feministic studies of Polish literature

This article describes the academic murder mystery as a particular hybrid of the campus novel and crime novel. The genre began to evolve in the 1930s in English-language literature and continues to enjoy popularity today. Attempts to write in this genre have recently been taken up in Poland as well.

Gatunek ten rozwijał się od lat trzydziestych XX wieku w literaturze anglosaskiej i wciąż zyskuje na popularności. Również w Polsce podejmowane są od niedawna próby uprawiania tego rodzaju beletrystyki.

The article presents the role of Zofia Nałkowska in inter-war Polish literary culture. Her activity in the structures of literary life was combined with personal commitment to promotion of young talented authors. While she maintained close bonds with the political elites of the Polish Republic, she also functioned above the ideological divisions, actively supporting authors who were opposed the state. As the only woman she was member of the Polish Academy of Literature. Her participation in the official forms of public life forced her to spend time mostly in male company. At the same time, Nałkowska’s most important relationships, both with women and men, developed in private space.

The aim of this article is to demonstrate close links between 'experience' as an epistemological notion and 'femininity' as a gender concept. Experience is considered here within two dichotomies: experience - reason; and experience - innocence. They are traced here mainly in the writings of Rousseau, Wollstonecraft, Krasicki, Mickiewicz, Blake and American Transcendentalists. Both dichotomies constitute an essential part of the Enlightenment and Romanticism thought, art and lifestyle. In particular they construct the code of sensibility, which highly influenced the 18lh and 19,h centuries aesthetics, spirituality and philosophy. As a result of the cult of sensibility in Western culture there appeared a peculiarly gendered figurę - that of a sensitive man, a feminized małe, capable of experiencing and showing strong emotions. By connecting maleness with features usually perceived as typically feminine, the latter gained higher cultural status. The counterpart for the sensitive man was a reasonable woman, a female person endowed with traditionally masculine intellectual capacities. The discourse of experience has a special meaning in William Blake's work and thought; here it is related to his anti-rationalist and antiscientific worldview, as well as to his apotheosis of Innocence as the State of elear insight into the true reality - one that is hidden behind the visible world. From Blake, via European Romanticists and American Transcendentalists it is possible to draw links to contemporary counterculture, environmental movements and theories (eco-criticism, eco-feminism) with their appreciation of soft feminine values.

Literatura, kobiety, pieniądze [Bookkeeping: Literature, Women, and Money], which was published by Szczecin University Press in 2014. The collection contains articles that are devoted to the economic aspects of Polish women’s lives, as they have been discussed in literature (i.e. fiction, autobiographical and journalistic writings, etc.) from Romanticism until the present day, with particular focus on the financial situation of women writers.

Artykuł jest próbą wprowadzenia i wyjaśnienia pojęcia transfikcjonalności. Badania w tej dziedzinie rozwinęły się w literaturoznawstwie francuskojęzycznym. Główną przyczyną ich zapoczątkowania wydaje się być potrzeba nowej koncepcji, która stanowiłaby rozwinięcie i uzupełnienie teorii międzystekstowych. W zderzeniu z niektórymi zjawiskami literackimi (brane pod uwagę mogą być wszelkie domeny sztuki) perspektywa intertekstualna wypaliła się – jej narzędzia przestały być efektywne. Tekst opiera się na książce Richarda Saint-Gelais, Fictions transfuges i w szkicowy sposób próbuje omówić takie zabiegi jak expansion (rozszerzanie), versions (wersje) czy croisement et annexions (skrzyżowania i przyłączenia). Przybliżona została nie tylko egzemplifikacja kanadyjskiego badacza. Autor artykułu aktywował nową siatkę terminologiczną na gruncie polskiej literatury.

Synaesthesia turns out to thus be a strategy for linguistic pleasure, representing a somatic impulse to engage with texts. Barthes, Nabokov and Robinson, daring to reveal their scandalously pleasurable literary habits, point to synaesthetic engagement with language as the source of translators’ intuitions, readers’ sensitivities, as well as – inseparably – textual pleasures, understood as an integral component of the experiential dimension of lecture and translation.

The article sums up the anti-gender campaign of 2013–2014 launched in Poland by the Catholic Church and right-wing politicians. The situation is presented with reference to the Croatian „Witches from Rio” case of 1992–1993 in order to demonstrate similarities of the two backlash discourses, both in the choice of rhetorics and topics (e.g. international conspiracy, deviated sexuality, national treason, violation of the natural social order). Finally, the author attempts to diagnose the impact that the campaign has had so far on various gender-focused projects (both in research and teaching) conducted in and outside academia in Poland.

The article focuses on the presence and function of bodily details in Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. The bodily detail is defined as a single part of the human body (e.g., the ear, the hand, the finger, the nail, the nape of the neck, the calf, a lock of hair) that is noticed by the characters in the novel and/or by the auctorial narrator. An important point of reference for the analyzes and interpretations is the style of reading proposed by Vladimir Nabokov in his lectures on literature and Kazimierz Bartoszyński’s theory of rereading.

Artykuł dotyczy obecności i funkcji detali korporalnych w Annie Kareninie Lwa Tołstoja. Przez detal korporalny rozumie się tu pojedynczy fragment ludzkiej zewnętrzności cielesnej (np. ucho, dłoń, palec, paznokieć, kark, łydkę, kosmyk włosów) postrzegany przez postacie ze świata przedstawionego utworu i/lub przez auktorialnego narratora. Istotnym punktem odniesienia dla analiz i interpretacji przeprowadzonych w artykule jest styl lektury proponowany przez Vladimira Nabokova w jego akademickich wykładach o literaturze oraz przedstawiona przez Kazimierza Bartoszyńskiego teoria lektury wielokrotnej.

The article proposes to use it to cover three areas of literary and metaliterary work: 1) classical normative-descriptive poetics; 2) self-reflexive poems devoted to the art of poetry; 3) guides to creative writing and essays on secrets of the writer’s craft.
