The article provides an analysis of extinct names of mills in a part of West Bohemia, whose localisation had not been known before. The author tries to determine their localisation and follow the development of their names. It is concluded that the names of mills did not usually exist much longer than the mills, many of which became extinct during the 19th century, themselves.

The paper is focused on the names of mineral springs in the central part of Western Bohemian Spa area, their origins and changes. The majority of those fountains was called after the neighbouring villages, where they are known by local inhabitants as sources of delicious water. This article concentrates on some of them, which got special names – originally after location, character and savour. During the 19th century, they were newly named – after saints, clergymen and royal personalities. The owners of mineral sources, who profited here heavily, led a struggle against competitors owning other springs and there and then, some wells were destructed. Other damages were caused by wrong amelioration or road construction. With the extinction of the well extincted even its name.

A special attention is devoted to its older name Watow, Waton or Watto, the use of which is extremely interesting and complicated. On the old maps, this name often refers also to a number of other rivers and streams especially in the West Bohemia. The main aim of the article is to explain this phenomenon.

The article continues in the analysis of extinct names of water mills in a part of Bohemia, the localisation of which had not been known before. The author determines their localization and follows the development of their names. The reason for the extinction of old names was not only the end of existence of the mill, but mainly changes of the mill-owners, change of the kind of production of these small industrial objects and even the demolishing of the water-mills ordered by local authorities.
