Każda bowiem Msza św. koncelebrowana powinna ukazywać i w znakach wyrażać jej teologiczne znaczenie, tzn. jedność kapłaństwa, jedność Ofiary Chrystusa i jedność ludu Bożego.

The concelebration of Mass restored in the Latin Church by the Constitution on Divine Liturgy (no. 57–58) was initially permitted only in specific situations. One of the requirements was for the Bishop or his Delegate to preside. In the process of concelebration rite preparation the Congregation for Divine Worship attempted to determine the permitted number of concelebrants. However, in Ritus servandus, published in 1965, we can only find information that the number of concelebrants is dependent on the particular circumstances in which concelebration is taking place, such as the size of the presbyterium. Ritus servandus indicates that the concelebrants need to surround the altar, at the same time not obscuring the view for the faithful. Currently, the concelebrated Mass can be presided by any presbyter. This form of Mass celebration has become ordinary practice and is advised when there are many priests and there is no need for individual celebration for the sake of the faithful. In recent years a tendency to limit the number of concelebrants can be noticed.
The author discusses the problem of conditional administering of two sacraments: of Penance and of the Anointing of the Sick. On the basis of the teaching of the Church—lex credendi (mainly the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Codex Iuris Canonici) and lex orandi (past rituals and currently valid liturgical texts)—the author claims that the Catholic Church has only recognized two sacraments as conditionally administered: of Baptism and of Anointing of the Sick. The idea of conditional administering of Penance has only been discussed in handbooks of moral theology, whose authors not only pondered upon the issue, but also admitted it as an option which they often encouraged. Contemporary theology of sacred sacraments strongly highlights the fact that they are sacraments of faith. Hence, they can only be accepted by believers who are expected to participate in them with awareness. The Sacrament of Penance, in particular, requires such acts like penitence and confession as prerequisite to absolution. Hence, there can be no conditional absolution or conditional Anointing of the Sick. These sacraments are either administered to those who have the required dispositions, or they are not administered at all.

For lack of priests the faithful of many dioceses are unable to celebrate Sundays and Church holidays by attending the liturgy of Holy Mass in their own communities on those days. In recognition of the meaning of Sunday and the Eucharist for the Christian faithful, the Apostolic See issued Directorium de celebrationibus dominicalibus absente presbytero (Directory on the celebration of Sunday in the absence of a priest). As a result, numerous episcopal conferences —in consideration of local circumstances—developed not only separate standards but also liturgical books featuring the celebration of the Sunday liturgy in which the leadership of deacons and lay leaders who have been appointed by the bishop is described. The American Episcopal Conference has issued a book entitled Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of a Priest in English and Spanish (Celebraciones dominicales en ausencia de presbitero), used by deacons and lay leaders during Sunday and holiday celebrations of liturgy in the absence of a priest. The article presents both general indications and legal norms of bishops in this respect, the rights of parish priests, deacons and the laity, as well as the form of liturgical celebrations without a priest. American bishops recommend mainly the celebration of the liturgy of the Divine Word and a fragment of the Liturgy of the Hours: Mattins and Vespers, which can involve the administration of the Holy Communion.

Konferencja Biskupów USA wydała w języku angielskim i hiszpańskich księgę (Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of a Priest.
Piety of the faithful is not restricted only to participation in the Sunday Mass, Sacraments and Liturgy of the Hours. An important role for communal and individual piety is fulfilled by the images of Jesus Christ and His Mother, Blessed Virgin Mary. Before they become cult objects, these holy likenesses are blessed in accordance with a ritual formula prescribed by the Church. Through a blessing, such pictures do not receive a special power from God, but they become a sign which directs our thoughts and hearts towards God. Paintings depicting Jesus and Mother of God are blessed outside Mass or during Vespers. A presbyter or bishop can administer the blessing of paintings. The blessing prayer is preceded by the Liturgy of the Word, which includes a reading from the Bible, homily and the Universal Prayer. When pictures of Jesus Christ and Blessed Virgin Mary are being blessed, the Church asks God that a prayers before the pictures lead the faithful to follow in “Lord’s footsteps,” that is imitate Christ, and that by looking at the example set by Blessed Virgin Mary the faithful aspire to perfection thanks to Her intercession.

W modlitwach błogosławieństwa obrazów Jezusa Chrystusa i Najświętszej Maryi Panny Kościół prosi Boga, aby modlitwa przed nimi prowadził do postępowania „śladami Pana”, czyli naśladowali Chrystusa, a wpatrując się w przykład Najświętszej Maryi Panny dzięki Jej wstawiennictwu dążyli do doskonałości.
The great work of the reform of the liturgy that had been recommended by Vaticanum II was done gradually with Pope Paul VI’s full approval. With this aim in mind he established a special Council (Consilium) to implement the Vatican II Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy; the Council published instructions containing detailed directives concerning the reform of the liturgy that were approved by the Pope, and it prepared new liturgical books. Pope Paul VI’s involvement in the implementation of the reform of the liturgy is confirmed by his numerous statements during papal general audiences, published in the periodical Notitiae. The author of the article analyzes the speeches that were made in the years 1966-1969 and mainly concerned the active, inner and outer participation (participatio actuosa) of the faithful in the Holy Mass, and the significance of the vernacular language in the liturgy of the Mass.

In the Latin Church concelebration of the Holy Mass was reintroduced by the Constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium (1963). At first it could only be celebrated in special circumstances and with a bishop or his delegate as the principal celebrant. Gradually concelebration of the Holy Mass was becoming the usual form of celebration of the Eucharist when priests are not obliged to celebrate it for the good of the faithful. Rites of the concelebrated Holy Mass published in 1965 as Ritus servandus in concelebratione Missae were then included in Paul VI’s Missale Romanum in 1970. Detailed concelebration regulations are contained in General Instruction of the Roman Missal (1969, 1975, 2002) and in later documents issued by the Holy See. If the concelebration of the Holy Mass is presided over by a bishop, norms should be observed that are contained in Ceremonial of Bishops’ Liturgical Service (1984, 2013). Liturgy of the concelebrated Holy Mass, in a way typical of it, shows and builds the unity of priesthood of the presbyters with the bishop and among the presbyters themselves; the unity of the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ made to God on one altar; and the unity of the priestly God’s people that perform various services and functions in it.

Obrzędy Mszy św. koncelebrowanej wydane w 1965 r. jako Ritus servandus in concelebratione Missae zostały następnie włączone w 1970 r. do Missale Romanum Pawła VI.
