Przedmiotem artykułu jest charakterystyka obowiązku biskupa diecezjalnego wizyty ad limina Apostolorum. Na początku autor wyjaśnia z czego wynika taki obowiązek i jakie podmioty są zobowiązane do wizyty u progu Apostołów. Powinność ta spoczywa na biskupie diecezjalnym, ale także na innych rządcach Kościołów partykularnych, którzy są zrównani z nim w prawie, tj. na wikariuszu apostolskim, opacie terytorialnym, prałacie terytorialnym i administratorze apostolskim administratury apostolskiej erygowanej na stałe. Zobligowanymi są także przełożeni Kościołów partykularnych utworzonych z racji motywów personalnych, tj. ordynariusz wojskowy, ordynariusz sprawujący władzę w Ordynariacie Personalnym dla byłych anglikanów czy administrator apostolski Personalnej Administratury Apostolskiej Świętego Jana Marii Vianney’a. Następnie autor przedstawia przygotowanie do wizyty ad limina, które obejmuje dwa elementy: przygotowanie dalsze oraz przygotowanie bliższe. Pierwszy etap obejmuje przygotowanie pięcioletniej relacji dotyczącej stanu diecezji. Drugi etap, w którym szczególne zadanie ma Sekretariat Konferencji Biskupów oraz Urząd ds. Koordynacji Wizyt, zawiera ustalenie terminu takiej wizyty oraz jej programu. Autor opisuje każdy element wizyty ad limina Apostolorum, tj. nawiedzenie grobów świętych Apostołów Piotra i Pawła, spotkanie z Biskupem Rzymu oraz wizyty w dykasteriach Rzymskich.

The subject of the article is to characterize the obligation of diocesan bishop of a visit ad limina Apostolorum. At the beginning the author explains what such a duty results from and what entities are obliged to a visit ad limina Apostolorum. The obligation of a visit ad limina Apostolorum rests on the diocesan bishop and other high ecclesiastical officials who are equal to him under law, i.e. apostolic vicar, territorial abbot, territorial prelate, apostolic administrator of an apostolic administration which has been erected on a stable basis, military ordinary, personal ordinary of personal ordinariates for anglicans entering into full communion with the catholic Church and apostolic administrator of Personal Apostolic Administration of Saint John Maria Vianney. Then the author presents the preparation for a visit ad limina Apostolorum which includes two elements: remote preparation and immediate preparation. The first stage concerns the preparation of quinquennial report on the state of the diocese. The second one, in which particular task has the Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference and the Coordinating Office for the Visit, includes establishing a date and the schedule of the visit. The author describes each element of the visit, i.e. venerate the tombs of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, meeting the Roman Pontiff and visiting the Roman dicasteries.

Synod diecezjalny powinien zostać zwołany, gdy uzna to za konieczne biskup diecezjalny. W diecezji ełckiej, która została erygowana w 1992 r., synod został zapowiedziany dnia 18 maja 1997 r. Pierwsza Sesja Synodu odbyła się 25 marca 1998 r. Autor w artykule przeanalizował znaczenie synodu diecezjalnego w procesie organizacji Kościoła partykularnego. Następnie scharakteryzował ustawodawstwo diecezji zgodnie ze statutami Synodu Diecezji Ełckiej, definicję synodu, a także przygotowanie, przebieg i zadania synodu.

The diocesan synod should be convened when it is deemed necessary by the diocesan bishop. In the Diocese of Ełk, which was erected in 1992, the synod was announced on May 18, 1997. The first session of the synod was held on March 25, 1998. The Author analyzed in the article the importance of the diocesan synod in the process of organization the particular Church. Then he characterized the legislation of the diocese according to the statutes of the Synod of the Diocese of Ełk, the definition of the synod and the preparation, conducting and the competences of the synod.
