The practical application of quantitative methods in risk management in investment projects carried out in the construction industry requires specialised knowledge in this field. In particular, it’s necessary to know the advantages and disadvantages of the methods. As different investment projects are carried out in the economy, including the construction industry, every time different methods, techniques and tools need to be used to estimate risks. These issues are addressed in the paper, the aim of which is to discuss the selected methods used to estimate risk in investment projects in the construction industry, focusing on their advantages and disadvantages. The problems are discussed theoretically and presented in a synthetic way.

The aim of the paper is to discuss the selected issues on risk management in public organizations in Poland. In particular, the issue of implementing the comprehensive risk management system in the public sector is of top priority in the discourse. For the complex risk management requires the integrated management thereof. Only such a formula ensures the comprehensive management of any threats in public organizations. The operated system of the integrated risk management would allow for timely anticipation of some of the types of threats or for determining the most suitable manner of risk response. The risk management system operated within the organization ought to be fully IT-supported. Owing to this, the risk managers will be able to acquire the current information on risk on regular basis, store it in the proper bases, process it, which will allow for counter-acting the risk in a more efficient manner in future as opposed to the common practice so far.

Integralnym elementem zarządzania strategicznego współczesnymi organizacjami publicznymi jest zarządzanie ryzykiem. Ryzykiem w praktyce organizacyjnej należy bowiem zarządzać w sposób zintegrowany i systemowo. Dlatego celem artykułu jest przedstawienie problematyki zarządzania ryzykiem w organizacjach sektora publicznego ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem uniwersalnych zasad i metod, które należy stosować w zarządzaniu publicznym. Rozważania zawarte w artykule mają, z jednej strony, charakter rozważań teoretyczno-koncepcyjnych, z drugiej zaś wskazują na aplikacyjny wymiar postulowanych w nim rozwiązań. Rozważania teoretyczne w artykule zilustrowano wynikami badań empirycznych przeprowadzonymi wśród wybranych szpitali publicznych w Polsce. W artykule wykorzystano metodę syntezy.

Risk management is an inherent part of strategic management in todays’ public organisations. In practical terms, organisations should manage the risks they face in an integrated and systemic way. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to outline the risk management problems faced by public organisations, with the focus on universal principles and methodology, which may be used in public management in this respect. On the one hand, the discussions presented in the paper are of the theoretical and conceptual character but, on the other hand, they also point out to practical applicability of the proposed solutions. The theoretical deliberations in the paper are illustrated by findings of the empirical research conducted among the selected public hospitals in Poland. The paper uses the method of synthesis.

Управление риском – интегральный элемент стратегического управления современными публичными организациями, ибо в организационной практике риском следует управлять интегрированным и системным образом. Поэтому цель статьи – представить проблематику управления риском в организациях публичного сектора с особым учетом универсальных принципов и методов, которые следует применять в публичном управлении в этой области. Рассуждения, содержащиеся в статье, имеют, с одной стороыны, характер теорети- ко-концептуальных рассуждений, с другой же – они указывают аппликативное измерение постулируемых в ней решений. Теоретические рассуждения в статье проиллюстрировали результатами эмпирических исследований, проведенных среди избранных публичных больниц в Польше. В статье использо- вали метод синтеза.

The paper is empirical in its character. In particular, it presents the excerpts from the scientific research conducted by the author among the selected group of the largest construction and assembly companies in Poland. The key aim of the paper is to outline and discuss the results of the empirical research into risk in business activities carried out by the surveyed companies. The research has covered only the largest contractors as large and very large construction and assembly companies tend to act as general contractors and carry out the biggest investment projects which, by definition, involve the highest risk. The execution of such projects requires the identification of risks, which occur at all stages of the investment and construction process.

Immanentną cechą projektów deweloperskich realizowanych na rynku nieruchomości jest ryzyko. Deweloperzy muszą zatem umieć zarządzać ryzykiem wykorzystując w tym celu określone metody. Dotyczy to również kategorii ryzyka logistycznego. W działalności deweloperskiej zanim jednak ryzyko zostanie skwantyfikowane wymagana jest jego dokładna identyfikacja, co następnie umożliwi właściwą reakcję na ryzyko. Kwestiom tym poświęcony jest niniejszy artykuł naukowy, którego celem jest przedstawienie problematyki identyfikacji ryzyka deweloperskiego ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kategorii ryzyka logistycznego. W szczególności jego celem jest wskazanie możliwości wykorzystania zarządzania ryzykiem w przedsiębiorstwach deweloperskich jako elementu wspomagania realizacji działań logistycznych w procesach inwestycyjnych realizowanych przez deweloperów. Rozważania teoretyczne uzupełniają wyniki badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych wśród największych deweloperów działających na rynku polskim.

Risk is an inherent feature of property development projects conducted on the real estate market. Therefore, developers have to be able to manage risk using specific methods. This also refers to the category of logistics risk. In property development business, however, risk needs to be accurately identified before it can be quantified and adequate risk responses can be considered. These issues are addressed in the scientific paper, which aims to outline the risks encountered in the real estate market, with the focus on logistics risk. In particular, it constitutes an attempt to indicate possible applications of the risk management in property development enterprises as a way of supporting logistic activities undertaken by developers in investment processes. In addition to the theoretical deliberations, the findings of the empirical research conducted among the major property developers operating on the Polish market are presented.
