Background. The aim of this study was to ascertain the reasons for physical activity involvement of inhabitants of Elbląg, where the unemployment rate is the highest in Poland. The study was preceded by a review of the concept of physical activity and the impact of physical activity on our health. Motivation behind people’s involvement in physical activity is diverse and is determined by many factors: gender, age, social and health experience, economic status, current lifestyle and current state of health. Young people are inspired by other motives than the older (although they may be similar). Regardless of the motive, the participant’s physical activity always produces beneficial health effects. Active people are healthier, physically fit, and in good shape. Material and methods. The study included 60 persons (30 women and 30 men). A diagnostic survey was the research method. Results. Surveyed residents of Elbląg undertake physical activity on the grounds: the improvement of well-being, attention to physical fitness and health, and enjoyment of physical activity. To the least important motives they passed the pleasure of physical activity, and fashion. The majority of respondents, regardless of age, undertook physical activity at the same frequency. People often take the education of physical activity than those who are less educated. Conclusions. The essence of the physical activity and recreation is that every person can do it regardless of age, economic status, weather conditions, and the place of residence. Inhabitants of Elblag indicate a variety of motives behind their choice of physical activity.

This study will analyse the sources of stress felt by staff in the hotel industry and the ways to relieve its impact. The details of stress is described together with indicators that reveal its source. With the ever increasing pace of life; the additional roles and responsibilities expected; and less free time to share with others as a release, the accumulated effects of these triggers become severe. With direct contact between hotel staff and members of the public/strangers, staff are subjected to many stressful situations over which they have little or no control. Any new staff member in the hotel industry can expect a stressful face-toface conversation sooner or later. The analysis of interviews and questionnaires discussed here, carried out in the Tri-City hotels shows that physical activity and sport is the most common method to relieve stress build up.

Mastering its principles is a prerequisite for success in the fulfi lment of such human needs as relaxation, wellbeing and exploration of the world. The effectiveness of any steps to limit the risk and its consequences in tourism stems from multiannual observation of social phenomena, but it is also dependent on the level of theoretical preparation to take practical action for increased security at every stage of the journey. The aim of this article is to explore the idea of developing skills in securing safety in travel as an additional educational need of school children and young people. The article recommends supplementing the school curriculum at the primary and secondary school level in order to help create a profi le of a student able to secure broadly understood safety for himself and for others.
