The article presents the development of contrastive studies in Poland which was different than in the USA, where, after a short period of intensive research, this kind of studies completely disappeared. The author points out the linguistic subdisciplines in which this research can be used. In the main part of the article the author discusses some problems connected with establishing the cooperation between Professor Ulrich Engel from the German Language Institute in Mannheim and Polish Germanists; this cooperation was indispensable for editing a German-Polish contrastive grammar. In the second part, the author presents the reception of the two-volume contrastive grammar, written under the supervision of Professor Engel, among Polish scholars and students of German.

In dem Artikel skizziert der Verfasser die Entwicklung der kontrastiven Linguistik in Polen, deren Entwicklung in den USA völlig anders verlief und nach kurzer intensiver Forschung eingestellt wurde. Der Verfasser weist auf die Subdisziplinen hin, in denen die Forschungsergebnisse kontrastiver Linguistik ausgewertet werden können. Im Hauptteil des Artikels wird die Vorgeschichte des von Prof. Ulrich Engel geleiteten Projekts der deutsch-polnischen kontrastiven Grammatik dargestellt und anschließend die Rezeption dieser Grammatik unter polnischen Germanisten besprochen.
The paper deals with the situation of German philology in Poland after the political changes of 1989. It describes how the so-called traditional German philology has developed into sort of “applied German studies” complying with the requirements of global society and economy. The author points to some new fields of inquiry such as pragmalinguistics, political communication, languages for special purposes, and provides an overview of current specialist literature in these sub-disciplines.

Im Artikel wird die Lage der Germanistik in Polen nach der politischen Wende 1989 skizziert; es wird gezeigt, dass sich die sog. traditionelle Germanistik zu einer „angewandten“ Germanistik hin entwickelt, um den Anforderungen der globalen Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft zu entsprechen. Der Autor weist auf einige neue Forschungsfelder (Pragmalinguistik, Politolinguistik, Fachsprachen) hin und bespricht die Fachliteratur in diesen Subdisziplinen.
In the article there have been presented ‘absorbing agent’ constructions which are alternative forms of the passive voice; they are so called recessive constructions. On the basis of the Polish and German languages some types of these constructions have been shown and their specificity has been pointed out.

W języku polskim strona bierna czynnościowa występuje rzadziej niż w języku niemieckim; jej funkcję przejmują konstrukcje recesywne m.in. -no/ -to i się oraz sporadycznie konstrukcje analityczne (werbo-nominalne).

Der Beitrag befasst sich mit den agensabsorbierenden Diathesen des Deutschen und Polnischen; es handelt sich dabei um Konkurrenzformen des Vorgangspassivs mit Agensausschaltung und reduzierter Valenz. Für das Polnische wurden einige agensabgewandte Diathesen dargestellt, in denen Verwendung des Agens blockiert ist.
In the article different frames of manner of actions in the Polish and German languages as well as in English literature were presented. The main part of the article is devoted to consideration to influence of aspectuality (lexical and grammatical aspect) on nominal phrase quantification. This consideration is supported by the examples taken from the following languages: German, Polish and English.

In dem Beitrag werden einige Auffassungen zu den Aktionsarten im Polnischen, Deutschen sowie in der anglistischen Fachliteratur skizzenhaft dargestellt. Den Hauptteil des Artikels stellen Erwägungen zum Einfluss des grammatischen und lexikalischen Aspekts auf die Quantifizierung der Nominalphrase in beiden Sprachen dar. Die diskutierte Problematik wird mit einer Reihe von Belegen veranschaulicht.
The meaning of past tenses is presented in various grammars in different ways. It was especially the hypothesis of the aspect-oriented meaning of Perfekt tense that has been paid attention to; its supporters claim that German Perfekt and Plusquamperfekt tenses express the meaning of completed action. The analysis of works of scholars has proved that the basic meaning of Perfekt tense is expressing the concept of anteriority. In the following part a few grammars have been presented. Their authors analysed the meaning of Perfekt tense having discussed telic and atelic verbs.
The article presents an outline of issue of translator’s ‘false friends’ and internationalisms from linguistic point of view. This discourse has been supported by chosen examples of words from a few languages. The second part of the article has been focused on didactic issues; the author suggests that a positive transfer in teaching of vocabulary should be used, especially in the context of the called for multilingualism.
