Article is an attempt to show, how the teacher of Polish language can discuss interesting contemporary books during lessons with students. The author describes how the students see the book written by Monika Sznajderman “Falsifiers of pepper”. She described her classes when students were working with essays of Roland Barthes and Wojciech Nowicki about photography, to deepen the reception of family story, which is shown by Monika Sznajderman in her work. The presented academic classes have become the starting point for student educational projects.

The author writes about communicative, contextual and cultural teaching of Polish as a foreign language, showing how literature can be used for this purpose. The literary basis is a poem for children of Jan Brzechwa entitled Na straganie (At The Market Stall). The article shows how from introductory, language exercises, preparing to receive a poem, you can go on to record typical Polish phrases. Brzechwa’s piece is the basis for learning the vocabulary associated with vegetable names, to recognize the emotions that accompany conversations at the market stall, and finally to culinary and historical talk related to the topic of cooking.

Autorka pisze o komunikacyjnym, kontekstowym i kulturowym nauczaniu języka polskiego jako obcego, pokazując jak można w tym celu wykorzystać literaturę. Podstawę literacką stanowi wiersz dla dzieci Jana Brzechwy Na straganie. W artykule pokazano jak od ćwiczeń wstępnych, językowych, przygotowujących do odbioru wiersza można przejść do utrwalania typowych fraz języka polskiego. Utwór Brzechwy jest na zajęciach kolejno podstawą do poznania słownictwa związanego z nazwami warzyw, do rozpoznania emocji, które towarzyszą rozmowom na straganie, by na koniec doprowadzić do pogadanki kulinarnej i historycznej związanej z tematem kulinariów.
