The sacrament of matrimony, which is the foundation of a Christian family, makes it the 'Home Church' (Ecclessia domestica). This term is rooted in a sacramental and ecclesiastical vocation of a Christian marriage and family. Being the 'Home Church' means to fulfll particular tasks, such as: creating a real community of people, promoting life, participate in the development of the society, taking part in the life and mission of the Church. The duties of Home Churches are ultimately inspired by love and challenge families to be communities of life and love.

The article focuses on spreading God's Mercy as one of important aspects of priesthood. In his service, a priest shows and spreads God's Mercy and continues His redemptive work. This was clearly seen in the teachings and especially the life of Blessed Rev. Michal Sopocko. According to him, priests can spread God's Mercy by preaching the Word of God, administering the sacraments and being spiritual leaders of the faithful. Rev. M. Sopocko felt very strongly his vocation as a proponent of God's Mercy and popularizer of suchlike attitudes among priests and other people in the world. He considered God's Mercy as the source of his own vocation as a priest. His meeting St. Sister Faustine was a sign of a special assignment given to him by God.

Istotą świętości jest miłość Boga i bliźniego. Uświęcenie dokonuje się więc na płaszczyźnie wertykalnej i horyzontalnej i obejmuje wszystkich chrześcijan. To właśnie w perspektywie powołania wszystkich chrześcijan do świętości można mówić o drodze do świętości małżonków chrześcijańskich, pytając, jakie jest ich miejsce w powołaniu powszechnym oraz jak w ich szczególnym powołaniu mają się stać świętymi. Łaska sakramentu małżeństwa daje nową moc małżonkom dla przekazywania wiary, dla uświęcania i przemiany współczesnego społeczeństwa wedle zamysłu Bożego. Zasadnicza problematyka artykułu została ujęta w trzech punktach: źródła świętości małżeństwa, sposób rozumienia świętości małżeńskiej, współczesne rozumienie świętości małżeńskiej.

One of the fundamental and important dimensions of Fr. Michael Sopocko’s life and work was his pedagogical activity and creativity. Fr. Sopocko taught as a lecturer in the seminary for the majority of his life and at the university for a number of years. He left a rich legacy of research and academic work in the form of popular and journal publications. Up to now, some minor studies have discussed Fr. Sopocko’s pedagogical achievements. This study contributes to a growing and important body of work by presenting Fr. Sopocko’s academic path, didactic work, and academic and written creativity and achievements as a pedagogue and educator.

Jednym z podstawowych i ważnych wymiarów życia i pracy ks. Michała Sopoćki była jego działalność i twórczość pedagogiczna. Przez większość swego życia prowadził dydaktykę, jako wykładowca w seminarium duchownym i przez szereg lat także na uniwersytecie. Pozostawił bogatą spuściznę naukową w postaci publikacji, a także dorobek pisarski o charakterze popularyzatorskim i publicystycznym. Dotychczas pojawiły się pomniejsze opracowania ukazujące jego dorobek w dziedzinie pedagogicznej. Niniejsze opracowanie przedstawia naukową drogę, pracę dydaktyczną oraz twórczość naukową i piśmienniczą ks. Sopoćki, jako pedagoga i wychowawcy. Jest to zaledwie przyczynek w tym ważnym temacie.

Parenthood is given and assigned first to parents, but also to all communi-ties which are concerned with children’s upbringing. One needs to take into account the country, which acts through education, but also the media. One cannot forget the Church either. This paper shows the church’s support for the contemporary family in fulfilling parental duties. Church’s service in that re-spect is not limited to the activities of the clergy, but is a sum of numerous initiatives undertaken by the laity involved in the Family Ministry.

This article presents the problem of educational competence of parents, in the context of their knowledge about education. Educational skills of parents in the areas of preferred ways of education, adopted methods of education and ways of resolving conflicts with their children were also analyzed. The presented material is based on research conducted in 2013 year among 1109 parents of children aged 0-19. Random sampling was used, which included subjects from all levels of the educational system: nurseries, kindergartens, primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools in Bialystok. The test method was diagnostic sounding, and research tool a questionnaire. The results showed that more than half of the parents have adequate knowledge about education as well as high educational skills.

Prezentowany artykuł przedstawia zagadnienie kompetencji wychowawczych rodziców w kontekście posiadanej przez nich wiedzy na temat wychowania. Analizie poddano także umiejętności wychowawcze rodziców dotyczące preferowanych sposobów wychowania, stosowanych przez nich metod wychowania oraz sposobów rozwiązywania konfliktów z dziećmi. Zaprezentowany materiał jest oparty na badaniach przeprowadzonych w 2013 roku wśród 1109 rodziców dzieci w wieku 0-19 lat. Zastosowano losowy dobór próby, który uwzględniał probantów spośród wszystkich szczebli systemu oświatowego: żłobków, przedszkoli, szkół podstawowych, gimnazjalnych i ponadgimnazjalnych w Białymstoku. Jako metodę badania wykorzystano sondaż diagnostyczny, natomiast narzędzie badawcze stanowił kwestionariusz ankiety. Wyniki badań pokazały, że ponad połowa badanych rodziców ma adekwatną świadomość na temat wychowania, a także posiada wysokie umiejętności wychowawcze.
