The subject of the document is the analysis of tourist-cultural potential of Gliwice and Gliwicki County carried out by Ochmański Arkadiusz with the use of the method for assessment of microregions potential, published in the monograph by Mikos von Rohrscheidt A. “Cultural Tourism. Phenomenon, potential, perspectives” [Gniezno 2008]. Apart from a short description of the destination and the data on the research procedures, the compilation includes the full valorization form completed on the basis of the carried-out assessment, well as the list of conclusions and suggestions referring to the increase of the potential and cultural tourism organization. The last element of the report is the descriptive material based on the analysis results which present the area as a destination of different forms of cultural tourism.

Kwestia rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego to obecnie bardzo ważny temat, jeśli mowa o polityce prowadzonej przez lokalne samorządy. Nie dziwi zatem fakt, że równie istotnymi zagadnieniami są wszelkie działania zmierzające do osiągnięcia skutku w postaci wspominanego rozwoju. Jednym z takich „kroków” jest rewitalizacja. Pojęcie to najczęściej rozumiane jest w kontekście działań podejmowanych w stosunku do obiektów poprzemysłowych, rzadziej natomiast w odniesieniu do jednostek funkcjonalnych i osadniczych. Biorąc pod uwagę problemy współczesnych polskich miast, można łatwo wywnioskować, że nie istnieje ośrodek miejski, którego obszar nie wymaga działań o charakterze rewitalizacyjnym lub proces rewitalizacji na terenach zdegradowanych został przeprowadzony w pełni. Wraz z rozwojem jednostek osadniczych pojawiają się coraz to nowe problemy natury społecznej czy też gospodarczej. Zawsze pewne obszary uznać będzie można za krytyczne, gdzie rozwój nie następuje lub też postępuje w tak nikłym stop- niu, że trudno wykazać jakąkolwiek poprawę sytuacji. Na takich terenach, dotkniętych szerokim spektrum problemów o charakterze społeczno-funkcjonalnym, rewitalizacja wydaje się odpowiednim narzędziem zmierzającym do poprawy lub zmiany panujących tam warunków. Niniejszy artykuł został opracowany na podstawie pracy magisterskiej pt. „Rewitalizacja miast szansą ich rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego” obronionej w 2014 r. na Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim, przy uzupełnieniu aktualnych danych statystycznych.

The issue of socio-economic development is now a very important problem with regard to local government politics. It is not surprising, therefore, that all activities leading to this development are becoming equally important. One of them is revitalization. Obviously, the term is usually understood as actions taken in relation to industrial facilities, rarely – ones related to functional units and settlements. Taking into consideration problems of modern Polish cities, it is hardly possible to state that there is any urban unit that is no need of revitalization actions or that revitalization process has been fully accomplished in a degraded area. It is even more probable that the development of a settlement unit will cause new social or economic problems. There will always be some areas considered critical, where development does not occur or its level is so negligible that it is impossible to demonstrate any improvement. In those areas, burdened with a wide range of socio-economic problems, revitalization seems to be an appropriate tool which can lead to improving or changing their condition. This article is based on the Master thesis under the title “Rewitalizacja miast szansą ich rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego” [Revitalization of cities as a chance for their socio-economic development] defended at Wrocław University in 2014. The material has been updated and complemented with current statistical data.
