Rolę odbiorców dzieł głuchoniewidomych artystów pełnią, przygotowani do interpretacji sztuki, studenci Wydziału Artystycznego UMCS.

The present article focuses on the issues pertaining to the research on the reception of the creative output of deaf-blind people. The aim of the paper is to answer the following questions: do recipients (audiences) perceive any qualitative difference as regards particular groups of sculptures and do any of these differences reflect the types of disabilities that the deaf-blind artists are affected by and/or the level of their linguistic competence. The recipients of the creative output produced by the deaf-blind artists in question are students of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University’s Arts Department, who are fully competent as far as art criticism is concerned.
Analizy te zostaną porównane i zweryfikowane zgodnie z etapami możliwości rysunkowych dzieci widzących. Ustalam je, korzystając z badań Szumana (1990), Lowenfelda i Brittaina (1977) oraz Luqueta 2001/1927). Narzędzie to uwzględnia aktualną wiedzę o sztuce, o etapach rozwoju plastycznego dziecka oraz o możliwościach osób niewidomych.

The following article focuses on the problem of knowledge projection of reality shown in the drawings of a child completely blind since birth. To analyse a drawing of a blind person, I try to reach this fragment of knowledge in the mind of the author that generates the phenomenon created in the drawing. Therefore, I try to determine the scope of knowledge about the phenomenon by having a conversation with the child about his experiences: – sensory experiences acquired through tactile perception, as well as other senses, – knowledge about the phenomenon contained in the mind (cognitive model). The subject of the analysis will be convex drawings on the micro-grooved film. The analysis tool will comprise of the model showing the content and form of the drawing, the creativity and the emotionality of the illustrator. These analyses will be compared and verified in accordance with the stages of the drawing skills of sighted children. I determine them using the studies of Szuman (1990), Lowenfeld and Brittain (1977) and Luquet (2001/1927). This tool takes into account current knowledge about art, stages of child’s plastic development and the abilities of blind people.
This article aims at describing a piece of art created by a person with simultaneous visual and hearing impairment. It is an attempt to show how the picture of reality is conveyed through the sculpture. It also indicates an individual and specific approach to the world and creative imagination of a deafblind person. The basic method of studying the creative process were discussions with the dabbling deafblind artists about the world and individual phenomena of reality, about the act of creating a sculpture, as well as their experiences accompanying the act of creation and its finalisation, when it was time to assess their piece of art. Various methods of communications were used to interview the artists (sign language, fingerspelling, gestures and others), which allowed to place the method in the field of cognitivism. The article consists of the most vital conclusions of the author’s research concerning creative possibilities as well as knowledge of the artists about particular phenomena. The key to such a model of analysis is the notion of a sign as defined by semiotics (Morris and Peirce).

This article aims at answering the question whether a contextual information in the form of audio description, providing details of a given piece of art and its author, has an influence upon the level of recognisability and understanding of the studied piece. In other words, how the information about a piece of art (or its lack) influences perception and aesthetic evaluation of an art piece. The article discusses a problem of aesthetic competence in the mind of a person blind from birth. The focus of the research concerns perception of an art piece on base of a tactile study of a bas-relief (a copy of Józef Chełmoński’s painting Storks).

The following article deals with the problem of the perception of aesthetic ugliness in art. The research presented in the article focuses on the reception of contemporary art assessed by two groups of students of the Faculty of Arts of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. One of the groups has got acquainted with the description (in the form of a text and guided curatorial tours) and other one has not. Students’ assessments from the two groups are later on compared. The aim of the article was therefore an attempt to answer the question: does being familiar with the description of studied works of art and their authors in the form of a text and curatorial guidance influence the scope of understanding and assessment of the work being watched, and therefore how the information about the work or its lack affect the perception and aesthetic value of the work?

The paper investigates the formal characteristics of drawings made by congenitally blind children and teenagers as well as the possibility and level of accuracy in the recognition of these drawings by sighted individuals. The study involved children and students aged seven to fifteen years. The formal features predominant in the drawings analyzed were typical for the failed realism stage. As an additional goal of the study, we investigated the usefulness of the transfograph as an educational resource supporting the introduction of tactile graphics to congenitally blind persons. Drawings made by blind subjects before and after training with a transfograph revealed a similar level of difficulty with their identification. However, following a prompt about the subject of each drawing, those made after the training were described by judges as more easily identifiable. In addition, the drawings made after training showed fewer features of failed realism.

The aim of the article is to examine the aesthetic perception of figurative and abstract paintings by groups of naive and experienced viewers with or without the knowledge of the information provided in the catalogue. The experiment was based on the theoretical concept of viewing the paintings from the perspective of form, content and axiology. The results of the research suggest that naive viewers can find the reception of the formal level of contemporary art difficult. They are also inclined to experience difficulties in the interpretation of abstract paintings. This, however, can be facilitated by providing them with the catalogue description.
